the story quoted has it all wrong.. this is how bad info gets out there.. the reporter did read the bill.. I do NOT agree with the bill on the gov desk but it is NOT as this reporter states..

IF passed it is for new bikes sold Jan 1, 2013 and later..

This bill (for those of us following it since it's inception) has really been watered down. The first version wasn't a "noise" bill at all. It was a smog bill. It called for every motorcycle on the road in California to pass an annual smog test (just like cars.) When that didn't pass out of committee it was rewritten as a noise law (basically saying no non-stock pipes) also for every motorcycle on the road. That didn't get out of committee either. So the bill was amended to just 2011 bikes and later, then 2012 and later, and finally 2013 and later. And that's the one on the Governor's desk right now.

You'll hear the misinformed always bagging on California but we really are one of the less restrictive states regarding motorcycles. There is no annual inspection here like many states in the East, no smog checks, even some parts of metro-Arizona have those, and no egregious pre-registration inspections on custom built bikes. (It's just a simple numbers check.)

And we can legally lane split!

If this was the sort of deal that people got to vote on we'd lose big as the average cager would vote to remove us from the roads altogether if that was possible. One of the most boneheaded things we American citizens do is when the rights of a minority are threatened and it doesn't affect us personally we just don't care. You don't have to be much of a genius to see how that winds up in the end . . .

Sounds to me like some people have car alarms that are too sensitive. Insead, we could propose a bill to eliminate all loud car alarms.

I don't have any audio alarms on my rides. If someone wants it an alarm will not stop them. Why install a car alarm in So Cal when the odds are you will get car-jacked?
I have loJack!

Thanks! That's what I get for reading newspapers, I should have learned years ago "Don't believe everything you read".

All we have to do is get involved and let the politicians know we vote and we are organized.
Here in my sate we have the MMA or www.massmotorcyle.org we are very organized and we all vote...We have a storm the state house ride every year in which wqe meet with local and state politicians and let them know where we stand.
In all my years of riding I never seen the assault on bikers rights that is happening know. Sit back and do nothing and you will lose your right to ride your bike the way you want.
Do you realize how many jobs that are created in the aftermarket biker parts world we live in...Pleas get involved call your state or local leader or the ultra liberals will win and I'm not being political its a fact they absolutely love to create new laws every time something irritates them. There are laws on the books already about loud pipes we don't need new ones.. let those who ride decide... www.massmotorcyle.org
