Default RE: Vibration with new engine mounts

ORIGINAL: dawg

Somebody on here posted a little while back about getting the new engine mount installed from HD and then having an Indy shop put his old one back on because it was not broken and he didn't like the way the new one felt.

I have an '06 SG and did exactly what you have described. I changed back to the original style mount and it rides as smooth as it did when it was new which is definitley better than the "New an Improved motor mount." With that said, I must say, I was never really happy with the vibration transmitted to my floor boards. I have a friend that owns a '03 Ultra, his boards feel smooth as silk.
I'm beginning to form the opinion that all bikes are not built equal. It comes down to the luck of the draw. You would think that for almost 20K they would all ride the same but they don't.

My o6 ultra came from the Factory with the new engine mount, I never had the old style so I have nothing to compare. Do you or anyone else have any info on how the Velva Ride® Motor Mount is....

Maybe it has less vibration.

Thanks

I had mine replaced, same thing lots of vibration. so got to looking at it, and it was up-side-down. had to argue with them to get them to fix it. the dealer told me i was wrong, then i showed them their own bulletin and they shut up and fixed it. still shakes like a dog. looking into after-market ones. hope that will fix it.

Here we go, lets blame it on something else instead of addressing the real problem, which is the mount.

I don't know if I'd write it off to just the mount. It may be a function of the mount and the installation itself.

I've ridden my 2006 SG with the old and new mount and am VERY displeased with the new mount. I've also ridden a 2006 EG Standard which was very smooth and had the new style mount.

On Friday I rode a 2007 SG and found it to be between my bike and the 2006 EG Std.

Her trike is a 01 Eg Classic converted by Champion Sidecar. I had to have the front mount replaced when the kit installation failed and separated the front rubber mount. The installer and I are of a differing opinion about his choice of glue and application for the top engine mount frame reinforcement required on 01 and earlier models. When the top cross rod lug snapped after the glued plates separated, the lower mount ripped away. I had a Velva mount installed as an upgrade and new swing arm Cleve blocs and isoalters installed... The 01 Stage 1 bounces at idle , but don't they all, with a lot less vibe at interstate speeds. I recommend the Velva mount, (not the trike guy).
