You guys can lock your forks, necks, wheels and other stuff all you want but you're fooling yourselves if you think it will keep your bike from getting stolen. If somebody really wants it, 4 burly dudes can stick prybars through your wheels and lift your bike onto a trailer in about 5 seconds. You have to chain it TO something.

I also know a guy who bought a lockable cover to fit his bike at the local Honda shop. It has "HONDA" on it very prominently and he uses that when he's on the road. He's never had a problem, and he doesn't have to wipe the dew off in the morning, either.

 

If they want your bike bad enough they are going to get it. If you lock it, they will lift it. If you chain it, they'll cut the chain. Your job is to do the best you can in securing your bike and keep your insurance paid.

Make your bike harder to steal than the one parked next to you.

 

I’m not stupid. I don’t leave my keys in the truck, I lock my bike and I keep everything fully insured. Most thefts are a crime of opportunity.

As Manish_Hawg stated “Make your bike harder to steal than the one parked next to you.” I will park next to those who do not lockup because “if they want it they will take it”. The low-lifes are always out there trolling.

I agree that if they want it they’ll take it, but I will not give it to them.
