Had an attempted theft myself at last years Fall MB. Came out the next morning and my brake caliper was broken away from the lower leg. I had a brake lock and they apparently tried to push it away and broke the lower leg. Thank god it was an amateaur who gave up!

It won't stop me though. I am going to Ocean City Bike week next weekend. We don't do the crowds to much and stick to riding the countryside. I also keep lots of pictures of my bike and add all the bells and whistles to my insurance policy.

It's true, locks keep the honest people honest. I travel with friends once in a while. when we stop, we nose bikes together to form a daisy, more bikes, bigger daisy. then I lock head and ignition, bull dog lock the rotor, run cable through all front wheels and lock. Set alarms. When alone I follow the same process except I look for a sign post, utility pole etc. to cable front wheel to. I carry replacement ins, not just liability and comprehensive. Sorry man, nice looking bike. Since I live near myrtle, I'll keep an eye open.

At the laughlin river run this last year the cops had a sting operation going on where undercover cops dressed liked bikers rode these tricked out choppers into parking lots etc. and did not lock them up. Then they just sat back and waited and sure enough here they come, some with trucks and trailers and other just trying to start them up and ride away. Twice I saw the cops swoop down on these guys and bust them, they posted signs everywhere saying there were undercover cops and sting bikes planted but some people never learn.
I felt pretty safe parking and locking my bike knowing someone might be watching.

For some reason I seem to recall reading somewhere that Myrtle Beach in particular is notorious for stolen bikes. The article mentioned that someone chained their bike to a utility pole and the thieves just cut down the pole with a chainsaw.

I don't care for Daytona so I don't know anything about that, but I don't think it's much of a problem in Sturgis.

lojack works on radio waves..once you report the bike stolen to the police they enter the vehicle into NCIC which at that time activates lojack. the lojack box, that is hidden on your bike then sends out a signal. each police dept on the east coast (i only know about east coast) have police cars that are equiped with localizers that can pick up the signal (unique for your bike) and they can track like that..several high dollar vehicles have been located in containers at ports getting ready to be shipped over seas, lojack i believe still offers they will find your vehicle in 24 hrs or they will give you back what you paid to have it installed. lojack is actualy better than gps since radio waves can go through walls.. not sure how much it cost but i think it is expensive. but looking at the price of bikes seems worth it..i think insurance comp give slight break also

When your bike is as a dirty as mine seems to be lately, you don't even bother locking it...people walk right by it and look at the SE's

Sorry about your loss...thanks for the reminder.

You have LOJack - - but do your local cops have the capability to track it? I've heard it can be a waste of money if the local cops don't have the resources needed for LOjack...

I heard the very same thing, and that was why I stopped looking into it.

Sorry to hear about your bike. I was wondering if you locked it, the neck and ignition. I always lock the neck and ignition. I installed the pager. The range of the pager is close to what is claimed. With the pager at least I will know when the bike is being taken, even if I can not do anything about it. The pager does give me comfort when I am at a motel room.
