They're saying 6-8 weeks to get parts???
My buddy ran right into the back of my bike this last weekend. We're both OK, but our bikes are another story. The dealer in town picked up both bikes and took 'em in for estimates. I knew right off that a new fender and left saddlebag (with all the attachments etc) were in the works. When I arrived on Monday to talk to the service guy, the first words out of his mouth were "It's going to take 6-8 weeks to get your parts in"
It's the 06 Street Glide in my sig pic. Fairly common parts, with a fairly common paint scheme (I see black cherry bikes all over the place since I got one). I can't believe it would take this long to get my bike put back together.
When I laid my last bike down, a Yamaha Tour Deluxe, it needed most of the same style parts as the SG (saddle bags / crash bars / gas tank) and it was back on the road in 15 days in the middle of summer. It was 5 years old at the time and had a two-tone paint scheme to boot. Am I wrong to be a surprised (and just a bit miffed) at a 6-8 week estimate for parts from the biggest bike manufacturer in the USA?

I don't blame you for being a bit miffed. Typically, any painted parts from Harley have a long lead time because they won't alter the paint schedule until there is a planned break or change. That said, I read elsewhere that they quite often beat their delivery estimates for painted parts. Good luck.

You might give these guys a call.
http://www.bdscycles.com/ someone mentioned them yesterday. You also might want to check w local painter if they are repairable, possible save some money and time.

6-8 weeks is the standard answer, may be less if it's a current color/part and you hit the schedule right.
Mine took 6-8 weeks, then another 6-8 weeks because something was wrong with one of them (I think they ordered the wrong part). Accident in June, I picked the bike up around X-mas. Fortunately I have a 2nd bike to ride.
If you can ride it with the damage, I would.

This is true! On a 6 to 8 weeks estimate, my dealer consistently averages about 2 to 3 weeks earlier delivery. Even still, they always state the longest estimated shipping time when ordering.
