The thing I like most about the Street Glide is the lowered rear fender and the filler strip between the fender and bags.If it didn't cost a bunch of cash,I'd do the rear fender mod to my EG.

 

EGC - Dress it up or dress it down. best of both.

 

Why not go to the Harley web site and do the bike comparison?

 

I'd go with a EG Standard- you can make it whatever you want..then again..I'm biased!..as for reading posts about preferring a clean front fender by removing the bumper?? I had a clean fender before... .....until some doofus in an SUV backed into my bike, pushed it back 3 feet... and I had to replace my fender and lamp assmbly..so I added the chrome trim (vs the stock polished crap) and added a front bumper..I like the extra bling better on it now! (oh..and his insurance picked up the extra bling!)

As others have said, I'd go with the EGC because with a few add-on's (detachable tour-pak hardware & mounting hardware and a short windshield) you will have 2 bikes in 1.

I'm currently working on getting a replacement EGC. I'll make the tour-pack detachable again, I still have the short windshield, I'll take of the ugly fender "bumpers" again and this time I'll remove the saddle bag guards and viola, instant Street Glide.

I'm 6'0 tall so the lowered rear is meaningless to me.

How do you figure that? For one thing a Streetglide has a better resale value , it has a stripped down less is more appeal & for the OP who stated that EG is for 2 up and the SG is for solo how do you come to that conclusion? I have a SG with a mustang daytripper seat, detachable sissie bar & luggage rack and I ride 2-up all the time. passenger floorboards are ugly, the stock SG pegs are good enough

 

Funny this thread was started. I stopped by a dealer today after work and drove both. Both were 08 Electra Glides. The first was stock everything, the second was an EGC stripped down like a street glide. It had a smaller windshield and a street glide seat.

The EGC was a smoother ride with the cushy seat and higher windshield. I hardly noticed the wind. The SG seat was firmer but felt nimbler? (if that is a word) I did notice buffeting from the wind on the SG. I drive a Fat Bob with extended controls and I missed being able to stretch my legs out on both bikes.

I am looking for a touring bike next spring and since I am going to keep my Fat Bob I will be looking for a good deal on a low mileage 08 or above EGC. There seems to be a good amount of them available right now. If I want to cruise solo I will take my bob and for 2 up my wife will LOVE the ECG back seat.

 

I have the Ultra. I am 6'2" for reference. The Ultra is very top heavy, too much. Lowers make very little difference unless you don't have chaps for very cold weather. It depends how you travel. If you carry a passenger it is something to consider. It is more comfortable for both and much better long haul, but not on its side. You can buy a much better seat for the Street Glide with a back pad and luggage rack.You can carry more in a duffel bag than a top trunk. How wide are your tent poles? Top trunks are not very wide. I would sit on both with a passenger. Bring your and hers leathers and put in the top trunk of the Ultra. Even something for the saddle bags.Lean them both with the old lady on. Each year it gets harder. Sounds overkill, but spending $20,000 you can not take back because you worry about what the sales man thinks is too. Hope this helps.

 

In short, one makes you look young and sporty and the other makes you look old and broken down.

Seriously, they are both great bikes. I almost bought an EG, but I don't like the looks of the bumpers on the fenders, passing lamps and flat turn signals. I prefer a clean, sporty look and thought it would be a waste of time to go through the trouble taking all of that crap off just to make it look like a SG anyways.

That is just me though.
