Default Bad Gas? Maybe

Hey everyone,

I got a new 07 Ultra dn I love it. But have had a couple of things happen and trying to figure these out. This is my first Harley. Well a couple of days after I got it, we went on a 300 plus mile ride. On the way home we stopped and got fuel, it seemed to not runt o great and on the turn pike when we went to pull up at a toll booth it died. Fired right back up. Figured bad fuel. Same thing happened today, After running at 75 mph for a half hour it did the same thing when I came up to a stop light. That fuel was bought at a small town fuel station. I always run premium. It is also over 100 degrees out so bike is plenty warm. Anyways, does this just seem like a bad gas problem. After the first time, I had not had a problem in the last 2 months until today and like I said, fuel was bought at an out of the way spot.

Any Ideas

Matt

Only way to find out is to drain/refill (if low on fuel), and see how she run's.

Get rid of that old gas.
Don't think you have to replace the fuel filter, but might be a good idea.

I have an 07 and I had an incident this year with a engine just died on me situation.. node codes or anything thrown, but would not restart until it cooled down. Then, for the next few days I could not get it to start and stay running. As soon as I gave ot gas it would die.

Finally I got it pushed up onto my trailer and got it to my dealer. I was explaining the problem and while on the trailer went to demo it for him.... yep, you guessed it. It ran fine.

Since then I have put anohter 1500 miles on it, and it has been running fine. Bad gas? I dunno.. but it was some weird thing, that came and then went away.

The question is how long did the bike setup before you purchased it. Gas is good for around 45 days before it starts varnishing.

Also there is a certain amount of trash in gas, most collects on the inside of the tank and the fuel filter catches the rest.

The ethanol gas is a great cleaner and it will dislodge the trash in the tank and it all hits the fuel filter.

Point is, change that fuel filter for good piece of mind.

I have a 50 year old International 404 tractor. I got gas at a Valero station, a couple hundred yards from my driveway. She rode fine on the way there, but by the time I got home, it wouldn't idle, sounded like it was only running on 2 cylinders. I think I got some of it in my Sporty too.

Bad gas is everywhere now. Worse than I remember seeing it.
