my 85 has whatever grease was put in the bearings when it was built. no more no less. i have never greased them. never had a problem. my 76, the same thing.
If you grease the neck bearings as the manual says you will have a mess for a long time to come. Just think about how much real turning and wear these bearings are subject to. Why would you want to fill the steering neck completely up with grease?
I'd like to know if you can feel the difference between the way it came from the factory vs you filling the head tube full of grease. You don't see the dirt bike guys doing this and they ride in a lot worse conditions. ...and to answer my own Question, You wont feel any difference.
In the mannual there are 4 groups a,b,c,d for the amount of swing ranging from just left to right to center for the FLTRX to 3 swing min. and 4 swing max. for the rest of the fairing models.
did your just take a lot of grease, mine has more comming out around the fitting than going in the fitting.
I put a 45 degree zerk fitting in mine, found I couldn't get the grease fitting on using a 90. Your not getting you grease fitting on straight and tight enough if it's comming back out there.
