Default Changing shock oil

Going to be changing the shock oil on my bike.
So my question is......what's the difference between shock oil and fork oil?
Dont tell that one is for shocks and one is for forks!

I'm planning on changing my rear fluids with Amsoil this winter.
May just use it on the front next change too.

What would make me know that the shock oil needs changing??? Just curious is it a normal service interval thing to change???

It has been my understanding that the Moco wants you to buy new shocks if needed.....

If the rear oil comes out looking anything like the front oil does......

Others can tell you that fork oil that has been in service for 20000 to 50000 miles will look awful,so imagine what the shock oil would look like.
I'm doing it because from the posts I've read, the ride is better.
Went to Cycle Gear today but they did not have any.The sales guy said there is a difference like Dawg said.Going to try another mc accessory store.

Change the oil in mine this past spring , I think I read something about one oil foams and the other doesn't. By the way I can't say that I liked the results and ended up buying progressive 412's and nver looked back.
