Default voltage meter reading 8 volts

as i drove down the driveway yesterday the bike just quit. would not even turn over, the battery was completetly dead. i trickle charged the battery back to full charge installed it back on. bike starts fine but a low reading on the volt meter. i pulled the plug between stator and regulator to check the output from the stator. resistance reads .3 on the ohm meter and switching the ohm meter over to a/c volts i tested the output of the stator while motor was running i didnt get any reading at all. do you think the stator is bad or is there something else i should be checking?

Without the manual in front of me, it sounds like you have a stator issue. If I recall, you are supposed to be getting AC volts out of it.

Switch the meter to DC Voltage

He was correct with the mode of measurement directly from the stator, AC. The regulator also contains a full bridge rectifier to change the AC to DC then through the regulator to charge the battery.

Yep, had the same thing, sorta happen to me. First get the battery tested, but sounds just like my stator when it went. 149.00 from HD, 96.00 from Drag Spec., 123. from Cycle Electric. Labor is going to be high at HD, I was quoted 4 hrs@85.00. Got it done for parts and labor by a small local shop for 274.00. I thought about changing over to the 3 phase system, but really didn't see any benefit. I got 70,000 miles out of the stator, it was orginal equipment. I did replace it with the cycle electric, just because of the high temp windings.
