Default Is a new stock Ultra Classic seat worth modifying?

I'm trying to decide what direction to go in order to sit lower on my 2010 Ultra Classic.I am strongly considering taking a chance on ordering a Sport Tourer from C & C. On the other hand I have a local family owned Upholstery shop that will modify my Ultra Classic seat for about $55.00. I'm trying to decide if the stock seat is worth the $55.00 gamble or if I should just put that money toward the C & C seat.I have been getting information from Chuck the owner of C & C and he has been great about quickly responding to my emails. I'm really on the fence and would appreciate anyone's thoughts. Thanks for your comments.

which '10 seat do you have? If you have the later "low" seat, it can be modified to get you lower than the earlier seat base can. I actually purchased a low seat which felt better than the original. It was more comfortable as well as about an inch lower. Later I had mean city do the double decker foam and get me down and back a little. That stuff really made a difference. The mods also got me a little lower, but I seemed to lose a little bit of move around space. If I had the chance to do it over, I would have skipped the additional lowering, but I have no complaints.

Sundowner!!! Lower than stock and it will shift you back just a bit without messing with passenger space $299 or try ebay. 2008-2010 will fit.
Oh and the sundowners are FAR more comfy than the stock seat.

Be careful going with a C&C seat, make sure they are aware of the new LOW seat. Last I talked with them, they did not have any idea about the new LOW seat and said that their lower seats would be about an inch lower than the old stock seat, so not as low as the LOW seat (which is 1 1/2" lower than the 09 stock). Hopefully they have some experience with the new LOW seats by now and may have a better idea, but didn't seem to know what I was talking about a couple of months ago.

I rode a stock 2011 U/C Limited and I love the new seat! The 2009-2010's I was tip-toe. Now I was flat footed and felt alot better at stops.

Maybe shop ebay in a few months for a take-off 2011 seat?

Sounds like you were probably sitting on the early model 2010 seat before they lowered them.I have the lowered 2010 stock seat but still need to probably be 1 1/2 inches lower. Thanks anyway for the thought.

Lets see....$50,....to try and adjust the seat locally. XX $ to send it away.....I think I'd try the local guy. You can always take it back and have him "adjust" it if it doesn't feel right. I used a local guy here to put a jell pac underneath my ultra. Figure $ 50 even if it doesn't work, it helped the local economy and you will have mad a contact that might be able to help you in the future. Get it done locally, ride it to fall and see if you like it and send it away if it doesn;t work. Can't hurt.
jmho.

If you have the new low seat as others have mentioned I'd get it modified. Look at the bottom of the seat and it should say "low" on it somewhere. MCC does a great job too and they're used to doing HD seats; so it will be right when it comes back.

I put the new 2010 low seat on my 2009 and it dropped me down noticeably. My wife and I both find the seat very comfortable after 9,000 miles in 2 months.

I only have a 28" inseam so I also put the lower rear shocks on and have not had an issue with bottoming out, even with 2 up and a full load for a 2 week trip.

Nex't I'll lower the front end but wanted to put on a few miles before deciding if it's necessary. To me you can never be too low so I'll be doing this in the fall.
