Need help on tank console insert/pod replacement
I pulled the fuel tank console from my FLHTK to get it powder coated. The plastic insert (or "pod" I think it may be called) in the center, which contains the port for the rider headset, was held on by some kind of adhesive gasket, which I pretty much destroyed removing it.
I've looked around for the part number for this adhesive gasket and I can't seem to find one. Looking at the instructions for installing one of these pods after the fact (when adding a rider headset port to a bike that didn't have one, for example), seems to indicate that the adhesive is part of the pod and not sold separately.
So two questions. Is this adhesive gasket something that I can get, and if so, how (part number?). If not, I'm leaning toward using some 3M double stick tape that I have from an automotive application (holding a spoiler onto a car, which amazingly held fine for the 3 years that I owned it). The 3M tape is a little thicker than the gasket and it's white, so I'm not sure how clean I could get it (everything else is black). Any ideas/suggestions?
