Road King vs Road Glide

Road King vs Road Glide
Today one of the local dealers had open house and I had the opportunity to to test drive the Electra Glide and the Road Glide. To me the Electra Glide was not that comfortable, I felt like I was sitting to close to the tank. I really appreciated how comfortable the Road Glide was. Everyone says it is the best riding bike in the HD line up. Is it worth replacing my Road King for Road Glide? I may already have a buyer for the King.

I think the Road Glide is the best handling bike amoungest the touring bikes HD offers. It is definately a difference than the Road King or any of the EGs. But that said, I think you really need to ride it hard to tell the difference. Beat on all three for a while and you will see. my .02

I am a prior RK owner and I loved my king but the RG handles much better. I take some flak even from some F*cksticks on here because it's not your average "cookie cutter" looking HD. The look of the fairing does grow on ya though and I would not trade my Glide if someone gave me another bike!

They're both great bikes but I don't think you'd be disappointed with the RG. I spent Winter reading up on all of the bikes and trying to determine which one was best for me. I narrowed it down to the RK and the RG but ultimately went with the RG. I've had my RG for 5 months now and put just over 8000kms on it and while I haven't owned one as long as a lot of people here I have to say this: I don't have a single shred of regret for choosing the Road Glide. I love that bike and I love that fairing. I love going out and being able to see which bike is mine right away and seeing another RG coming the opposite way because you don't see many of them. I love when a huge truck rolls by in opposite traffic and my RG makes the wind feel like nothing more than somebody's breath on the head light cover. And I absolutely love having a stereo on a bike. You can see that there aren't many Road Glides for sale in the classifeds and I believe it's because once you own one you never want to own another.

RE: Road King vs Road Glide
I've had mine since March and wish, for my first Harley, that I had chosen a RG. I bought a 2001 Dyna Superglide as my first bike, rode it for five years. Due to some medical concerns my wife decided to sell her 2003 Low Rider. Before she got her own, we rode quite a bit together on the FXD (probably 60-65% of the FXD's miles were 2-up). We decided to trade her FXDL for a comfortable touring bike and went to the local dealer. I fell in love with a Fire Red Pearl RG. Well, after a decent trade in and some stage 1 upgrades I started riding the RG. I thought I would keep the FXD for nasty weather (I ride rain or shine to work) and the RG would be for me and the wife on some trips and fair weather work days. After the FXD sat in the garage for a month without being ridden I sold it. No regrets, and wish I had pruchased the RG sooner. In 1993 I learned to street ride on a KZ1000 Police Bike for a military police unit. It also had the frame mounted fairing. I had ridden a couple of the earlier batwing police bike and don't like the fork mounted fairings due to my motor officer training and riding style. My wife and I are more comfortable and more than satisfied with the RG. All the touring bikes look fantastic, but I don't think you would be unhappy with the RG. In fact I like my '06 RG so much I haven't even wasted time worrying about the '07s and the 96"/6 engine. My stage 1 88" can and did put me in triple digit speeds with plenty of power to spare. The ride at 100+ felt as stable as the ride at 70-75.

And don't worry Bluking06 .. that handle would be easily changed to BluRG07!! Rent one, ride one & buy one .. you won't be sorry. Ride Safe

Im the one who repeated the "dog in the lineup" statement, but that was from the mouth of my harley dealer and related to how they sell compared to the rest of the lineup and its true, many more people go for ultras, classics and road kings than these but thats fine, because harley makes less of these than any of the others and I was able to broker a good deal on my 07 due in this month. If you talk to almost anyone who has one they love it, looks are like harley has started to advertise them, Hardcore tourers, bet they up production on these because I think there are a lot of us who really like being a little different from the rest of the crowd. After many years of riding black electra glide classics and having to look for my tag number to tell which one was mine at rallys it will be nice to see the silver bullit sitting in that sea of black cookie cutters!
