Default moving tour pack back

Has anybody moved their tour pack back using the extra holes
in the bottom of the pack.If so does it affect your handling much?
Does it give you much more room?I'm trying to get a little more
room between me & mama, and move back off the tank.

Yep I did it. Gave momma more room and me too. I didn't notice any handling difference.

Thumbs up

Moved it back yesterday and rode about 150 mis. Definitely a lot more room.
Handling a little different at slow speeds, but other than that it seemed fine.
It is a lot more comfortable, with a lot more air circulation between us.
Definite improvement.

I put the quick detach kit on my Ultra ( also put in waterproof wiring junctions under me seat) and as part of that I had to remount the tour pack onto it's new mounting plate. Took the opportunity to mount it at its most rearward location. Now me missus sits a little further back but it means I can use me rider backrest without it cramping into her space. I haven't noticed any adverse effects to handling, mind you we're both average weight for height.
Now I'm making me own rack to mount to the quick detach points and I'm putting a bracket under (and welded to) the rack which will accept the removeable riders backrest. Nice to take short trips without all the luggage but still have comfort for me missus.

I used the Kury adjustable kit. It has its good & bad points. First of all, why did I buy an adjustable kit? It will never be in the forward position. The whole purpose was to move the kit back.

Second of all, the adjusters are a MAJOR pain in the ***. They constantly come undone. I finally torqued the sh*t out of them to the point that after a while, the tour pak won't slide back and forth, because the metal rails bend inward under the tension.

The only good thing about Kury's adjustable relocator kit is that it comes with this big chrome base plate. It looks really good and it adds a great deal of structural strength to the U-bar setup.

However, you can make a heavy support plate for probably 5 dollars.

Look at this way, maybe I just saved everyone $200.

Same here. Cheapest and one of the best mods I have done. Easy too.

I hate the tour pak to begin with, but when it's on it's always in the farthest back position. It's amazing how much more room that little change makes. The woman sure looks it. The only thing I noticed is that the bike is a little less balanced feeling coming up to lights, ya know at that speed where you almost have to put your feet down but you're still working the clutch with 2-up. That's really the only change I noticed though.

Ok, I haven't looked but are there adjustments on the straight Ultra Classics or is it only with the quick disconnect kits.

I know for '09, not sure when it started, there are two options for mounting tour-pak. One inch separates the two positions. Mine was in rear position and will stay there. Handles fine. Not sure I would want to adjust farther back than that and risk making the front end too light.

I believe it started in '06 models.
