Default 09' wheels on an 05'

Posted this question in the 'wheels, tires and brakes' but no responses so, My Q' is what would be involved in installing an 09' rear wheel on an 05'? I asked a tech at the local HD and he shrugged his shoulders and said alot of money. Any one ever try this?

Cheers,
Brian

The wider wheel and tire will require the whole wider rear end, which won't easily retrofit onto the older frame. The tech was being honest, a lot of money will get it done, but would also get you onto an '09 or newer with the whole thing already taken care of.

I remember reading a few years back where a 180 was used on a earlier bagger which didn't incorperate the wider swing arm...I don't remember what kind of mods had to be done but they were able to make it fit...Yes stuff was tight up in there but the got it to fit without modifying the or replacing the swing arm...
Got me curious to see if later I can do search and see what come up...

Thanks For the reply's guys, and the links TexasBowHunter. Oddly enough for the look I'd like to go is using HD's 28 spoke rims. I can get some for cheap through an old buddy of mine.

Cheers,
Brian

Default 28 spoke rims

hey i am in the process of doing the same thing you are i really like the look of the 28 spoke rims and am trying to incorperate them on my 08' road king. I am in the modifying process right now but instead of using the stock 180 rear wheel which is way to big for my bike i am using to front rims....
