Default WTF.. Wally gauge not working.

First let me say that I am pretty mechanically inclined. That said, I followed their instructions to the letter. I even bounced that against the article here on the forum. My oil temp gauge does not light up or provide a reading. I have double checked all connections and they are correct.

While holding the plug with the center wire at the bottom as a "T".

The blue/orange wire from the gauge goes to the right side of the 3 prong plug

The black wire to the center plug

The black/red from the sensor to the blue wire from the gauge.

What am I missing?

The Wally instructions say to connect the black/red wire to the red wire on the gaige plug but the wire is blue, not red.

Do you have a complete circuit?

Ground (-)---------Battery+++++>Gauge+++++>Sender------->Ground to engine block

I hope that this comes out? If not I'll put a picture in my scanner and send it.

The gauge itself may also need a gound to light the lamp.

I'll go out and test it with my multimeter. Scan the pic if you don't mind.

Ok, I just tested the wires. I have 12 volts coming from the blue/orange wire on both sides of the connectors.

I have a good ground on the black wire.

I have continuity from the black/red wire from the gauge to the sensor in the oil pan.

Here are some pics of my connections.

Back pic of the gauge as it is different than the one in the article on the forum

Either the sockets in the connector are not contacting the pins right to the gauge, or the gauge it defective.

Do you have a tech assist phone number from wally? They most likely would give you and RMA number and allow you to return just the gauge.

UPDATE

I could not get the light to work for the gauge so I installed the factory bulb/connector. Then went for a test ride. The gauge wouldn't read anything. Once I returned I jiggled the plug and now it works. After another ride it registered 185 degrees on a 70 degree day. Sound about right with Amsoil fluids?

I'll still contact Wally to see about getting a replacement but I am headed off Wednesday for a 7 day ride with my brother.

I have the HD gauge and it takes up to 30 min to get up to temps. 220-230 is about where it settles on a long ride w/dino fluid in summer.

About right with Amsoil.

Mine (05 Ultra) takes about 30-45+ minutes to 200-210 with Amsoil on a 80-85 degree day. On a 95+ degree day runs around 220-230 with Amsoil.

Glad to hear that it started to work when wiggling the connections. Would like to hear how wally handle after the sale / tech assistance too.

Have a safe trip.
