It shouldn't be, you have an '09 Non-California bike. You didn't buy your bike in California did you?

All 2010 and newer Touring bikes will have a Cat.
Only Bikes sold in California have Cats in previous years.

So what is that material we are looking at? Is there any way to drill into it and remove even a portion of it from the tail of the header. Just thinking any size whole through it would be an improvement. Guessing you could start the bike without the slip on and blow out the drilling and loose stuff.

Called the dealer today about the converter and exhaust, they informed me I can add a set of V&H's true duals to solve the problem only will cost approximately $1500.00 to get the real harley sound.

I feel alot better now. WTF

Not quite true. 2006 was a transition year with harley vs the EPA. The 49 state 2006 tour models have a right side cat muffler.

When the ox sensors were added in 2007, the cat muffler was eliminated. Like wolfdog, mine are safely stored, just in case....

Geezus, them sumbeeches must run super hot. What's a cat's operating temperature? 1200 to 1600 degrees I think it is.

In the area of modification/removal of the (cat) exhaust, are there not sensors that would have to be dealt with by at least a retune.

I think the 2009s had a cat in the slip on. Why did you say when the O2 sensors were added the cat was eliminated? The new ones have sensors and cats.

Each year the EPA rules got tougher. 2006 was also the last year a Stage One download actually did any good as far as enrichening the air/fuel mix (according to my dealer tech).

If you get ahold of a parts books, you can see the different mufflers listed by year. The 2006 has the cat in the touring mufflers, the 1995- 2005 and the 2007 does not. Part number 80463-06, entitled, Catalyst Equipped Fits '06 Touring Models. Screaming Eagles were not offered for 2006 except with a cat, but came back in 2007-2008 cat free when the EFI module was changed and the ox sensors added . In 2007 they were 50 state legal, but in 2008 the same mufflers are only 49 state legal.

In 2009 (California) and 2010 (all fifty states) rules got increasing strict, hence the cats are back.

Page numbers 540-542 in the 2008 parts book.

Other models (Dyna, softtails, sportys, etc) have their own mess of different mufflers as well.

Think that's confusing? You should see the different cam grinds each year to keep the EPA happy. The 2006's I believe, were the first cams without an overlap on the timing. Adding the Andrews 21's really livened up our motor, and I'd recommend them to anyone with an '06.

A long time ago, iclick put me on to the cam charts in the Screaming Eagle race catalog at:

http://www.harley-davidson.com/en_US...bmLocale=en_US

I just checked, however, and the current one at the above link no longer has any information on pre '07 models that I could see. Scroll down around page 50 to start finding the info on cams and mufflers.
