I didn't think you oiled Stainless Filters. Maybe you do, but I still don't think so. Anyone with a Stainless/Wire mesh filter, I would double check before I oiled it. Then again, I've been wrong before.

I stand corrected, Dawg is correct. Went to Arlen Ness web site and you use a clear oil for the stainless filters. I know the Exotx Stainless filter does not use oil, but that is obviously not true with all metal filters. As the saying goes, spend more time listening and less time talking and you may learn something. LOL Here is the link.

Well, if it has never been oiled, and he rode it that way I hope he didn't do it long, or get into any bad dusty environments. Because a filter that requires oil, is probably as bad as running without one,,, if it's not oiled.... pretty useless.
Good luck!

Does the AN BS filter when purchased new come pre oiled or do you have to buy the oil in addition to the filter?

An old friend of mine once put so much oil into a K&N after cleaning it, his bike would hardly run. It was sucking the oil out of the filter and trying to burn it. It was funny to me because I knew right away what he had done, but the look on his face was priceless.

Cheers,

My Big Sucker came pre oiled.

I'm not sure how long it went without oil. It was pretty dirty so I used my K&N cleaner on it several times then dusted it to a light pink with oil. I know I'm completely reaching here but I was kind of hoping that had something to do with my backfiring issue.....but it didn't.
