Rob, sorry you're having problems with the docking kit... but I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one who was temped to take the crap back. I finally got the bolt lined up by stepping down on the lower bag support and pulling up on the rear turn signal. what a pain. Good luck on the install.

I did mine and went through the same problems. I think the worst part was trying to line up the bolts again. When I pulled them out it was like taking a watch apart (twaaannngg) an oh Sh....t moment. But after fighting with it for a while I used a floor jack to put a little pressure on the bottom of the fender until things were lined up. It sounds scary but if you are careful and place a rag on the top of the jack so you dont scratch anything it works really well.

Wow...

I'm sorry to say I'm glad I'm also not the only one that felt the directions sucked the big one and that getting the bolt holes lined back up was a chore. I was wondering if I had a flawed bike or what....

To be honest, it makes me wonder if they have the holes mis-aligned from the left to the right side of the fender. Anyone else have that thought?

I know this seems bad but, The instructions for the docking kit $uck$. I'm going to figure this out sooner or later. Hopefully sooner. Does anyone have any pictures of this quick release mounting kit on an 06 Street Glide? if so please post them or contact me. Momma won't ride until the back rest is installed. I should count my blessings and just take it back, but be the nice guy that I am, I would like to get her out more.

Do a search on the Forum for docking kit, there have been many tips posted to make life much simpler when installing this kit. I know that I have posted about this a couple of times. There are many mistakes and mis-information in the instructions. They are the biggest piece of crap I've ever seen and I have seen a lot.

I did a search and several hits came up. Try this one and see if it helps you.

All,
Thanks again for the help. I'm not going to let the "STEALER" get my money. I just got home from work , cracked open my first adult frosty beverage and am starting on the project now. Thanks again for the help I'll keep you all posted.

I messed with the so called instructions for 45 minutes. Then I threw them aside and placed the sissy bar up where it looked like it should be and found bolts that lined up. It took 15 minutes to install that side and about 10 to do the other. I say pitch the instructions and give it a go.

All,
Thanks for the help!! It took 3 1/2 hours, six beers a mouth full of swear words. It's on and working fine. I'm going to install one on my buddys RK it should take 40 minutes top. Leave it to HD to make something simple almost impossible. Again thanks for the help, this is the best Forum on the net!!

Your[sm=welcomesign.gif]. That was fun wasn't it? At least you can now use your new knowledge right away to help your buddy. Most of the time you do something like this once and never get to do it again unless of course you buy another bike.
