Troubleshooting Cruise Control

'12 Street Glide
Just ran this on my '12 Street Glide, it still works after all these years! Turned out to be an aftermarket handle bar install.
Here's a procedure you can try.
It works on an '05 FLH so let's see if it works on your RK.
1. Hold cruise switch in the "set" position.
2. Turn the cruise "on"
3. Turn the main power switch on, the cruise light should initially come on then turn green, release the cruise switch the light will turn amber.
4. Push the cruise switch to "resume" the light should turn green, release the switch, the light should turn amber.
5. Roll the throttle "off", make sure you roll it off to activate the cutoff switch for the cruise, the light should turn green, release the throttle the light should turn amber.
6. Apply the front brake, the light should turn green, release it, the light should turn amber.
7. Apply the back brake, the light should turn green, hold the brake until the light turns amber, release the brake now, you should hear the cruise motor adjusting itself (taking ujp the slack).
What you have done is test each of the "switches" that are in the cruise system. If, during any of the tests, the light does not turn green, then that part is at fault.
The back brake switch is often at fault. You can test that by applying the brake and see if the light is already on. If it is, the cruise will not engage.
The front brake switch can be at fault also, as it sometimes gets damaged when work is done on the right handgrip/brake lever assembly and the proper procedure is not followed.
The "roll-off" switch can also be at fault. Check the connections on that.
It does sound like it's a fault in the brake system, since it started malfunctioning after you applied the brakes.
Hope this helps

Rear brake switch and cruise control
Did all of the above mentioned test when I check rear brake cruise light goes green but does not go amber until you let go of brake. When cruising my cruise control drops out and my check engine light comes on...could this be a rear brake switch problem? When I turn off cruise control and am riding my check engine light will come on....has anyone changed this switch? Simple? I’m in West Virginia headed home to ny and do not want to encounter any issues! Help please

A quick test of the rear break switch is to disconnect one wire and see if the CC will stay engaged. Beware though, you won't have a rear brake light when using only the rear brake.

I am having the same issue right now. I see my front brake lever has some plays that whenever I squeeze the lever, the brake light come on, when I let go the lever. the light stay on as active braking. If I rest my fingers on the lever, the brake light active it. What happen was I installed AVON grips to replace the worn out stock grips. I know this is why my CC will turn on. How do I fix this issue? Help please?

I am having a unique problem with my cruise control. 2014 Ultra Limited. I get no light (yellow or green) when starting my bike or when setting the cruise (which does not set). Recently I installed the WHIM and had the dealer flash my radio. That is the only thing that has been done to the bike lately (month or two ago). Last weekend I noticed my cruise control would not set. No lights no nuthin. When I hit the switch to turn on the cruise, instead of getting the cruise on light my radio screen changes from the album cover to the name of the song and artist of the music I'm listening to (thumb drive). I went to the dealer today and they reflashed the ECM and updated any software that needed it. Still no joy. They thought it might be a bad switch (which I had upgraded to the Harley lighted switches) but when I got the bike back home I put the stock switch set back in and still got no joy. After Christmas I'll go to another dealer and see what they think but in the mean time maybe someone here might have a clue because I don't Thanks.
