Insulted today by dealer trade quote...

OK, I did my homework before hand... was just testing the waters in different markets...Another dealer told me he would allow $14500 on a trade...go figure....I thought it was funny...i just wanted to start a thread about trades...I agree with somebody else....They said that it was an extremely high amount of miles...It's a freakin touring bike...I may just keep it... Put cams and a PC5. I have a year left on the warranty...I have my eye on a new Heritage...Never know...thanks for all the replies...

I just looked up the nada to see if the other post was correct and it didn't match mine so here goes: As was said, low retail is usually not on a dealer lot so figure yours at least worth 12,000.00 and figure the dealer is going to low ball you so even at 1000.00 it should still be 11,000.00 and that would be for junk. My feelilng is that trade-in value should never be lower than the lowest of retail prices which is 11,800.00 since they are going to ask average retail to start.
PRICING
Low Retail Average Retail
Base Price
$11,800 $14,060
TOTAL PRICE $11,800 $14,060

I have not decided to sell or trade yet.I am selling my wife's Volusia 800 because she doesn't ride it any...that will save some dough.I will keep my options open...the dealer i went to that low balled me was a dealer that i probably woulod never buy from...well maybe not...they have decent prices on used stuff. It's not a do or die type of deal...

When a trade eval is done. A tech examines the bike to determine what may need to be done to it for re-sale. i.e tires, service etc. The cost of any of these suggested repairs is subtracted from the actual trade value.
You need to look at all the numbers including what they are offering you in trade. The mark down below MSRP may make the trade more to your liking.

used metrics never were worth a dime
"Stealers" are the same everywhere, be they auto or moto, always low balling you hoping you want the merchandise no matter what they offer you in trade. I took my metric back to the dealer having added full fairing and crash bars and all sorts of other mods....not even considered. Moral of the story is accept the trade in or sell it yourself.

For a Harley more then 10k miles consider high mileage that's the reason you will see 10 yr old Harley with under 5k miles for sale.I traded mine 05 Ultra for my 07 Ultra with 27k miles on it and it was all souped up dealer gave 12500.00 after a week of negotiations. Now I'm keeping my 07 till wheels fall off, it has 52k+ miles on it dealer will probably insult me too with a ridiculous offer.
