Insulted today by dealer trade quote...

"Stealers" are the same everywhere, be they auto or moto, always low balling you hoping you want the merchandise no matter what they offer you in trade. I took my metric back to the dealer having added full fairing and crash bars and all sorts of other mods....not even considered. Moral of the story is accept the trade in or sell it yourself.

I find it funny that 49k is considered high mileage. It's a TOURING BIKE! They are supposed to be ridden. 50k should just be getting broken in good? That's only ~16k a year on an '07. As far as trade in is concerned, the dealer is in business to make money so his strategy is to buy low and sell high. If you do trade the bike in and the dealer puts it on his floor I imagine what he thinks about your bike then will be totally different.

When I bought mine there was an Ultra on the floor. An 06 I think and you could not have added anything to this bike without taking something off. Had everything a guy could want, loaded and looked like new. Perfect color for me too. The price tag was $13.5K, once I saw the 60K on the clock I never gave it another look. There are too many with low mileage out there right now for a good price.
Selling outright is a huge pain in the ****, I would have talked him out of a few hundred more dollars and rode away on a new bike. Thats just me though.

I traded up to a Limited in April. The sales manager told me average milage on a touring model's 7k per year.I had almost 26k on an '08 EG so it's high milage, book value was somewhere around 11000.But he also said he'd have no problem selling it because of the condition and accessories, not engine mods.do make a difference .Gave me 13.5k and sold it 4 days later for 16k.Local economy hadn't dropped off here as bad as other places,6% unemployment from 3% a year and half ago.People still buying new and used.He did tell me flat out he wasn't coming down on the Limited much because they were selling faster than he could get them out of the crate. It cost me about 8 grand for 2 great riding seasons on the '08.I can live with that.

My local dealer gives barely above scrap prices for trade ins, but there are some dealers about 50-75 miles away that are supposed to be better to trade with. However, I am planning to keep my bike to the bitter end. Its exactly set up the way I want it and starting that over with a new bike is too expensive, on top of the price of a new bike.

Ok i know my bike isn't made of gold or nothin like that but Dayam....I have a 07 ElectraGlide CLassic, added cruise, stage 1, other than that it's stock...49k miles and they offered me $9400.00 for it on a trade i laughed and walked away really fast...What do y'all think...sounds a bit low?
I will give you the $9400 just so you won;t have to deal with the dealer.

Same thing happened to me in 2006 at Smoky Mtn. HD.
I told sales manager, "dont insult me"
What's he do?
Insults me.
Offered me $15,400 for my blinged out '05 Heritage with 8000 miles on it.
I contacted dealer I bought the Heritage from, Bumpus in Murfreesboro.
Told them what all I'd done to it.
He asked me to email pics.
He replied to email, "I'll give you $19,000 on trade for the '06 Street Glide if it's everything you say it is"
I knew it was everything I said it was so I loaded it up and headed to the 'Boro.
Wrote a check for the difference, $1300 some odd dollars and left with my paid off, brand new '06 SG.

I am reading, my dealer offered me this and mine offered me that???
As stated... what is the OUT THE DOOR COST to you... I could offer you a LOT for your bike, then turn around and screw you of the bike Iam selling you?? A lot of dealers sale above MSRP and some sell Below MSRP... If I were to see your bike on the street for sale, my first offer would NOT be my top offer - its all a game.. I go low, you go high... if we both get our 'feelings' hurt we walk away and the bike doesn't sell...
its business, YOU do your homework, know the value on YOUR bike, Know what the REAL value is on the bike you want... do the math and YOU make them an offer - and remember, that the "starting" point..
If you act like your trading in YOUR baby,,, most likley you won't make a deal..
Aslo, as stated, a trade in gives you sales tax atvantage...
One poster said, Hey, I will give you the 9400...
A lot of people get caught like this,, they come home crying about how little their bike is worth and a friend jumps up and says, Hey, I will give you that - You thinking, hey might as well sell it to a friend than give it to a dealer...
In selling it to the friend, you just lost the sales tax advantage.. on 9400, here in Ca, that means you just gave up about $775.. do the math..
an educated seller is a smart seller..
