RE: Oil change
I'm doing Amsoil 20w50w in all three holes for the first time this weekend.
Bike has 15000 miles on it right now. I have been running GTX 20w50 in the engine sence new and HD synthetic in primary and tranny. I've always changed the engine oil and filter every 2500 miles and the tranny & primary every 5000 miles. I plan on runing the Amsoil in all three holes for 5000 miles unless it starts looking bad before then. I've heard very good things about Amsoil so I'm not worried at all.

RE: Oil change
I second your comment about Amsoil. I remember looking at the used Amsoil in the pan during an oil change (after 5k), and the oil was dark, but not completely black! I also saw a small clear layer above the dark stuff, and was told later, that was the difference between Synthetic and conventional oil. I've started using Amsoil at the 1k service, and have been very satisfied with the protection and quality.

I change my oil every 2500 - 3500 and I use synthetic oil. I change the primary and tranny every other oil change. I also use the same oil in all three holes. You may get a lot of opinions about this too. As a note: Moble 1 syntheteic 20-50 for V-Twins is the same as Screamin' Eagle but cheaper.

Gunrunner made great points! HD marketing machine will always try to lead us to believe that Syn3 is pure synthetic. But, we all know that HD don't even make half the parts and products they sell at their stealerships! As an Amsoil user and dealer I can tell you (unbiasly) that many tests have been conducted in the areas of wear and viscosity breakdown. And, Syn3 wasn't even close!
If you're going to spend $20,000 or more for a motorcycle, wouldn't you want the best protection you can for your investment? And, since the drivetrain takes majority of the beating, getting the best lubrication to protect it would make a lot of sense.

I dont know where you got that info buts is so wrong its not funny, Harleys Syn 3 isn't even a true syn oil! Not even in the same class of syn oils as Amsoil and Mobile one which are rated much higher, cost? Mobile 1 twin 20-50 is 7.99 at auto zone, syn 3 is 8.99 at the hd dealer if you want to learn about this before blindly believing the hd propaganda, look on amsoils website for goverment tests done on all major brands, or read some of the posts on Syn 3 here. https://www.hdforums.com/m_126273/tm.htm The only person that would tell you Syn 3 is as good a oil as Mobil1 or amsoil is a guy who has never used them, the differance is felt as soon as you start the motor.

I don't like the idea of running 20w50 in the tranny. What flavors do you run in your bike and waht does it take to become an Amsoil dealer? There's not one where I live.

I appreciate your responses! After 26 years of riding and studying other poeple's bikes I finally got my first Harley. It seems to be free of any of the bugs you see on here and if it continues to be it will be my last. Not that I would mind having second Harley but I am planning to wear this one out first. A guy I knew had a BMW with over 425K on it and to me that's more impressive than trading before the warranty is up.

It's very easy to become a dealer. I signed up on the Amsoil web site to become a dealer. I just got my first case of 20w50w and two chrome Amsoil filters. The price is cheaper then HD synthetic. HD synthetic $8.99 QT I paid $6.40 QT for Amsoil shipped to my house. A chrome HD filter is what $13.99 + TX I paid $10.45 for a Chrome Amsoil filter.
