I just put them in while I had the batwing off anyways. I've heard both good and bad things about them.

I didn't notice a difference.

They're no trouble to install, though. They go on easy, adhere really well, and putting the batwing back on is no problem with regards to fitment.

When Dr. V-Twin installed my J&M amp, they removed the padding that had been previously installed with my J&M 7.25" speakers, and replaced it with the J&M acoustic padding. It was hard for me to tell a difference in the padding because the sound was so much stronger with the amp. However, Shawn at Dr. V-Twin had indicated that they felt the J&M padding was worth it based on the installations they did. If Shawn reads this thread, maybe he can comment.

I seem to recall reading that dynamat is just as good, cheaper, and fits better (not as thick)

Have to agree with the Dynamat (I'm a little bias towards their product) because it works so well

Same experience here, same reason, was making Hog-tune upgrade anyway, had no trouble with install either. I didn't notice a difference either. Didn't affect fitment at all. I had already done the farring speaker upgrade and was doing the tweeter pod install. The idea made sense, cost wasn't too much, so I figured WTF.

Didn't install the foam when I upgraded to the J&M's. I previously had installed some type of acoustic rubber squares that firecap had recommended so I just left it in there. Still have those foam pads sitting in my garage.

Damn, just cicked that link, $37.00???? If you want to send me $25.00, I'll ship mine to you.

I have used the foam pad before and could not tell much difference. The last go around I used dynamat instead of the foam. The dynamat was thinner and makes putting the fairing on easier. I think it makes a little difference. If I could not get dynamat from the shop for nothing, I do not think I would use it eathier. It does look cool when you remove the outer fairing, helps to impress all your buddies, LOL.
