That's happen to me a couple of time, once backing up and once pulling up to an intersection on a hill. put my food down on a big round rock. and I was on my butt looking up, We were loaded down both times, once on the way to Sturgis and the next time in Natchez, MS. I think we looked like the Beverly hillbillies on the way to CA when we went to Sturgis, with all the camping gear and my wife. I would never get rid of the guards.

I never move my bike anymore unless im sitting on it.. Damn things are heavy .. I learned my lesson shortly after I bought mine but also I didnt realize at the time how sick I was (heart attack 1 month later) and I was loosing strength fast. Im good now but I still wont try to move it unless im sitting on it or standing over it not next to it. But you can still go down ..

When I went down last month, it went all the way over on the side....The rear guard saved my saddlebag, only a little rash on the corner of the lid that was easily repaired along with the bag latch and front latch on my tourpak. If the guard and side rail were not there, all would have been toasted.....
Pretty easy to change out a few scratched chrome pieces.

My wife dropped her Road King Classic earlier this month, when we stopped for lunch. I was amazed that I couldn't find a single scratch on her bike. The road bars saved the day. Her ego was bruised, but once she realized that it happens to just about everyone at some point in their riding career, she was cool with it. Hell, she's 5'5" and riding an 850lb machine, that alone makes me proud of her!
