anyone actually done this, advntgs/disadvntgs?
In THIS ARTICLE from Harleyhog.co he shows of putting a grease zerk in the primary for the shifter shaft. Has anyone actually done this? What are the advantages and disadvantages? Looks like a novel idea, but I don't know if it would even be worth it.

My 93 FXSTC, which I sold 3 years ago, didnt have one... that I remember at any rate.... lotta beer has flowed under the bridge. The cop bikes are set up for extreme conditions so it is probably an upgrade. But my curiosity is peaked and I will be looking as I run up on EVOs and police bikes

I think it's a good idea, but if you get your bike serviced (or self-service), you can add the task of lubing the shaft to your list of tasks. I also agree that having exposed grease will attract dirt, which may be defeating the objective. Plus, excess grease could also get slung onto your primary cover and engine case at high speed. Thus, get burnt or stuck on your engine case.

I put one on my RK. While it was still new it looked like 15 shifters instead of 1. The vibration was crazy. I also replaced the spacer with a coiled spring covered with a rubber boot that keeps enough tension on the shaft that it only looks like, maybe 2 or 3 shifters while riding. My '01 has a grease fitting on the brake pedal which is something else I think they quit doing.
