Took about 5 minutes to completely remove and they were covered pretty good.
Absolutely 0, none, no fine scrarches on the chrome. You may get scratches if you don't use the 0000 super fine steel wool.
Okay, excuse my ignorance, but where does one buy 0000 steel wool? I never new it existed? Thanks in advance for the info.

Be careful when using oven cleaner. It works, but if your pipes are too hot it will splatter like bacon in a hot skillet. You don't want that.

Walmart or any parts store like Autozone.

Why not remove it the easy way. Get a bottle of GOO GONE and a soft cloth. On cool pipes the rain suit will melt right off, and no need to worry about any scratches on the chrome. I had melted a lot of my frogg toggs to the exhaust some time back and was amazed on how easy it removed with this stuff. I agree with DRAFT1 about rain suits and now have the H D suit

0000 steel wool pads will remove all marks and no scratches. Takes a little elbow grease, but you don't have to worry about getting oven cleaner on other parts.

Don't you hate it when things like that happen? A lot of work AND you need a new rain suit. At least it was you and not your wife. Makes for a bad evening around here when it's her fault.

Be careful if you go the steel wool route. Be sure you get the right stuff. Trust me on this.

Get an ironing board cover (the old silver kind) and sew a piece of it (or use the iron on hemming tape) to the leg of your rain suit (you have a hole to patch anyways).
0000 steel wool has never made scratches that I can see.

Easy-Off cold oven cleaner on cold pipes. Spray it on, let it soak overnight and the goop should rinse off with cold water. It won't hurt chrome, either.

+1 That is the way I have done it. Cold pipes!!!
