Default 2010 ultra classic lacks power

Talked into trading my 07 ultra at 20k miles for 2010. 07 ran great with the 96/6 and kept a good pace, would run at 100+ when I wanted. The 2010 has 1000 miles but won't run 85+. Lots of throttle but no gain of rpm or speed. The muffler has turned blue from heat. The dealer says give it time to break in. Also said it was only typical for the 103 owners to have a blue pipe from heat. Has anyone else had this lack of power and hot pipe problem?

My 2010 UC cruises on the hyway at 80 no problem but I havnt taken it much faster than that for any length of time mufflers have not changed color but the bike runs hot as hell in any kind of slow traffic 2500 miles so far. I have an infrared thermometer and the cat runs around 450 degrees 230/front head 280/ rear head got to do something about that in the near future but other than that its the best running bike i have owned in 35 years.

I have no problem breaking 85 with plenty of power to spare. I only have 900 miles on it, so I don't think you will see a big change with more miles as far as power goes. But that is just my opinion. I have heard people say that the heat will get a little better as time goes, but I don't plan on waiting too long before I do some things myself to help with the heat. But so far no blue pipes, just lots of heat.

Bottom line for me would be, if you can't go over 85 on a new ultra you have a problem. I would take it to someone else for a second opinion.

My Limited has just over 4500mi on it, and it runs like a champ. 85 to 90 all day long on the big hiways ya know. But I'll agree with the others, I'm getting a lot if heat as well. But I'm waiting to see which route I want to go to fix that problem.

I'd get me a second opinion....good luck

Won't MOCO cover the muffler under warranty? I would call and give it a shot.

There was a thread on this same thing a day or two ago. I believe it was found that the catalytic converters were clogging. A stopped up exhaust will most definitely cause severe heat and lost power. A 103 should be a screamin demon even in a stock set up. Our 09 police bike, with the 103, flies past 100 quite easily.

I agree. Your stock bike should not have a blue muffler. That is NOT "normal". Tell the dealer that you do not want a replacement muffler and that you want them to fix whatever it is that caused it to turn blue.

My basic theory on these types of issues is to get it on record that you brought it to their attention and then just ride till you get too old or it blows up.

I have a buddy with a 2009 that I got to ride at Sturgis last year....80 plus all week and no blue pipes on his yet....gotta be a factory defect on yours that the dealer should take care of.
