Have you put a volt meter on battery with the engine running? Should be 14.4 volts or so at 2000 rpm. You can retreive any codes using your turn signal switches. (Search this forum for procedure) Also, original batteries have gone bad at nearly 4 years. Does your turn indicators flash rapidly when starting? (Means code stored) Hope this helps
im pretty sure its the reg and or stator. do these have to be replaced together? battery less tahn a year old . have 65+k on bike. how hard is the stator to change? guess it would make sense to try the reg first since its external. directionals and evrything function fine
You might have a bad battery, even though its only a year old. Before you chg any parts suggest you clean the battery terminals and ck your battery as recommended by TomWoodgeard. Also, take the battery to a bike shop or car parts store for a freebe bench ck.

I agree, start with cable and battery first then work backward to the stator.
Good luck
i will check the battery just to b thorough. BUT starts strong and would battery cause lite to come on and voltage drop to 11.5?? just spit balling here
HOLY CRAP BATMAN!!!!!!!! just talked to HD and they want a grand if its the stator / regulator. cant afford that . guess ill HAVE to figure this one out myuself
