Exclamation Rear tire sliding in rain

I just bought a new 2010 Street Glide with the D407 Rear tire and the D408 Front. Yesterday I hit some wet pavement in a turn and felt the back tire slip a bit. I feel it shouldnt have based on my riding experience. Today I hit a bit of rain and was stopping for a red light with a car sitting at it and almost lost the bike twice. I started braking well in advance and the back tire started coming around on me. I let off the brake and gave it a little gas to pull me straight. Now I really needed to stop so I tried again, this time going light on the brakes. The rear tire came around about 1/3rd of the way to the point where I could actually see the rear of the bike as I fought to keep the front straight. I have about 20,000 miles in riding experience and never had anything like this happen to me before. Something is very, very wrong here. The rear tire feels like I am riding through bacon grease every time it gets a little wet. The only thing I can think of is that the Street Glide uses the same tires as the other touring bikes, which have more weight on top of or behind them because of the tour pak.

Does anyone know what the hell is going on? Anyone have a similar problem?

It could be a suspension problem, a you problem, or MOST LIKELY it's a brand new tire which has yet to be fully scrubbed in so you're slipping around on that nasty sealant which is on the tire until it's finally broken in. Check your pressure as well, too high will get you slippin' all over the place.

Mine was slick as snot for a couple hundred miles too.

Tire not scrubbed in yet? Still has mold release on it? Never had that problem, but I'm pretty slow in the rain.

The first time I rode my 09 Ultra in the rain I wasn't happy the way the factory tires handled either. Was stopped at a red light and turned right. Could feel the front tire slip as I was turning. At the next light as I was coming to a stop, the ABS kicked in. Was freaky to say the least.

Sounds like your rear tire is overinflated...Try using more front brake that is where most of stopping power is.

Damn this is scary chit. My bike has just over 1700 miles on it, I have never ridden it in the rain, and I leave for Sturgis in just about 3 weeks.

check inflation, and do a couple of hard launches or burnouts.

They use a lubricant to release the tyre from the mould during manufacturing, and this results in lower traction until the outer layer is scrubbed off.

I tried my abs out on my limited when I got it , in a light rain and had to brake really hard to get the tire to lock enough to get the abs to come on. could it be the surface and temp? mike

Couldn't tell you.. maybe the road was slick from oil or anti freeze when it happened to me.

Are you trying to ride it like a crotch-rocket? Just wondering if your previous experience was with sports bikes....? Just a thought.
