Rear tire sliding in rain

The experience thing has nothing to do with road conditions if they are bad enough…I have 111000 miles on my 07 and Almost lost it twice on several different brands including Avon, Pirelli, Michelins or Dunlops. As recent as last year on a trip in the hills.. scares the pure **** out of me every time…. Some oils on the roads are a deal breaker for any tire.. I try to remember to hand scrub my new tires on the bikes before I go off on the first ride which reminds me I have only about 100 miles on a fresh set of D402 on the bike but it stays mostly parked now because I ride my Trike mostly. It’s a combination of a lot of factors… Tire, road, reaction from us and heat.

I got my answer on this today. I took the bike to the dealer to pick up a replacement for a blown fuse and the rear tire went left again when I hit the brakes on the way there. I mentioned it to the service rep and it ends up it was slightly out of allignment (yes, from the factory). That plus wet roads and probably some oil, along with not giving enough rear brake was enough to make me scare the hell out of that driver in the cage in front of me. Thanks for all the help on this one.
Interesting reading through this thread. I have a 2012 Street glide and I've been riding for over 20 years on all kinds of bikes so plenty of time riding in all kinds of conditions, hard rain, everything. Only recently (last year or so) have I felt similar to what OP stated, but my issues are not during stopping. Mine are on sweeping turns such as highway on/off ramps. The first time I chalked it up to putting on too much throttle in the turn, but the next time, being weary of the last time, I took it super slow and easy and it felt like any thing would throw that rear tire out. At this point I'm not sure if it is in my head or not.
the only thing I could think is overinflated rear tire, but I never overinflate. I will let some PSI out and re-evaluate.

Coming from the world of Japanese bikes, I learned that the "recommended" tire pressure is just what the manufacturer recommends. Be it the tire or the bike manufacturer. It is not the golden rule for your bike, riding style or weather conditions. My old CB1100F I ran the front at 36 and the rear at 38. It dove into the corners like a beast and would launch hard as hell with minimal tire rotation. You may want to try a little less pressure in the rear and see if it gets you a little better grip. I just picked my bike up from the dealer having a new engine built. When I got home I went through and double checked all the connections at the bolt on stuff and checked my tire pressures. They had put them BACK to 40 at both. It just didn't feel the same as when I dropped it off. I dumped 2 pounds out of each tire and now it feels better. It's amazing what a couple pounds can change in feel and grip.
Just my $.02 worth. Be safe.

It's a 12 year old thread, but the person that resurrected it, searched and found answers to his questions. I'd say that's what's awesome about this forum.
Riding in the rain always has my more on edge than not, but I do it all the time anyway. I tend to limit my speed and avoid sudden changes in direction, whether it be forward or to the sides. Old tires and new tires are slick. I check my pressure as if it were a religion, and each bike has a setting I prefer for each. On the Street Glide, I run 38/front 41/rear.
