Default looking at buying a '99 Classic

I sold my '08 Fatboy 3 weeks ago b/c of the arthritic pain in both knees and lower back after a couple of hours of riding. figured I was through riding. several friends are saying I need to try out an Electra Glide.

so, to that end, I'm heading over to my favorite dealer tomorrow to look at a '99 EG Classic with only 14k miles.

is there anything I need to be wary of?

thanks

First year twinkie in the bagger. First gen fuel injection had it's fair share of issues. Lots of miles left with only 14k on it. If the price is right, go for it.

forgot to post price. they're asking $9999. figured they have some wiggle room, and as a minimum, I'll be asking for the 15k services.

unless you fix the handle bars and seat - back and knee pain just may follow...

Well...my '99 E.G. is carb'd, and truthfully...thats the way I wanted it.
No more spending high dollar amounts on 200 series tires too. My last new rear tire was $114 delivered.
The '99 tourer is the first year for the twinkie engine, as someone said in an earlier post. You will have the old plastic chain guide set-up vs. the hew hydraulic chain tensioner (which is in your '08 now). The best remedy is putting in a gear driven cam, and get rid of the plastic crap (which is the weak link). Also I hear that the inner cam bearings are not the best. I have not really checked up on that.
But most important....I love my E.G. !

S&S 510g does wounders as long as the runout isnt over 3,if it is you can allways go 510 CD with new tenchener,a couple jets and some better mufflers and a S&S AC........About as best you can do without going to a 97 kit..here is a pick of mine with C&C Fastback seat with 11" bars...Ive been thru 2 neck and one shoulder surgery and this works great for me...Big pic I know....

yeah, I realize that. as a long legged 6ft tall, I've already decided there's some things I need to do to make it fit better. ez brake lever, extended shifter lever, harleygoodies and have MCC rework the seat to move me back a little and have memory foam added. I did the same things to my Fatty.... made it bearable to ride a couple of hours, but no more.... and that's pumping up on Tylenol/aspirin/ibuprofen and an analgesic balm.

I have seen in Bagger Magazine that it is easy to upgrade the earlier Twinkie to the Hydraulic tensioner without the expense of the Gear drive.
