Default 2008 uc only 45% of value?

Got a UC 2008 with stage 1, oil cooler and Rineharts. Spent $26K total on this bike. Dealer offered me $11K for it on a trade in for a 2010. What happened to the harley's hold their value? Is this what this bike is worth on a trade in? The deal was my bike and I pay $10K in top of it so the dealer is giving me $11K for my bike. BTW, bike has 30K miles. Is this typical or a bad deal? Thanks

Check the Kelly Blue Book site and NADA. Low retail is probably 16-17,000. Depending on paint, rust, chrome and other stuff, i.e. condition of bike, 11,000 seem low. Everybody thinks their bike is perfect, but most are not. Bike market is slow, so dealer may only want to sell new stuff and is low balling on used stuff. Try ebay.

Default Attempted theft..

...WOW..talk about an INSULT...the reality is though...a dealer will look at someone(please don't take this personally), comming in the door to trade in a 2 year old HD big-twin,as probably someone who has more money than brains..(remember, don't take personally!), and will probably try to bend you over HARD..cause he figures you're one of those "gotta have the newest" type of buyers. I mean realistically, that dealer will probably ask 17,999, for your bike on the floor, and will take $16,999. If he gave you what's fair for trade in($15,000 in my opinion), he wouldn't make sh*t on the bike. So it's only worth it to him if he gets yours for a song. The 2010 ULTRAS will sell out eventually anyways so it's no big deal to the dealer if u don't take the deal...I would throw it on Craigs for $16,900, and take $16,000...good luck man...

My local dealer gave me 15,000 for my 07 SG with 20K on it when I bought my 2010 RG....

Find another dealer or sell it outright.

1) Add-ons will help sell your bike quicker but don't expect to recoup their cost when you sell or trade your bike in. If you trade in, best to do is take them off and sell them direct for 1/2 the price new.
Only real trade-in value to consider is NADA, not what you paid.
2) $11K for your 2008 with 30K miles is an insult. Go see another dealer or sell it direct on eBay, Craigslist or here. You should get at least $4K more if you trade in and you'll save on sales tax on the new bike. You'll pay sales tax on the difference between the price of the new bike and the trade-in value.

join the club. First thing the dealer pointed out to me as a negative with my '08 Ultra was the frame????!!!! How many gazillion trouble free miles have been put on my '08 frame design vs the new improved split frame??????????

Needless to say, conversation ended. I'm not ready to take the screeewing yet...

Like another poster said, the dealers don't really want to mess with used Ultra trade ins when they can sell the new Ultras outrite for cash on the barrel head..

Yup. That deal sucks. The dealer is just fish'n cause he knows the "bite" is on. You already know what you want so figure out a deal that you can live with and stick to your guns. Start your own fish'n trip. Contact every dealer within your range limit and give them your offer.

Also, take a peek at this good old thread by scubadog. It'll help to adjust your overall approach and attitude in buying a new bike.

13.5 trade in on my '08 EGC with 26k mi. on a '10 Ultra Limited in April. They say avg. milage on a touing bike is somwhere around 7k./per year so if you do any riding at all it's going to be in the high milage catagory. The salesman at first quoted me 11k for the Classic(still looked like new with ABS,cruise, security,V&H duals,Heavy Breather,SERT) and I laughed in his face.4 days later it sold for 16 and the new owner's tickled pink. They didn't even have to service it and made 2500 cash.

It appears to me that you got bent over when you bought the 08 in the first place and are trying to recoup the money on that hosing. MSRP on a new Ultra is $21k and you bought an 08 for $26k? OUCH!
