So lesson here, umm follow the instructions. I also noticed the difference with the collar being different. I installed new stock gaskets, though I didn't need to, and it all went well. I noticed because of the difference in the collar design, when tightening the retention plates on the header, it does not have as much of the head bolt exposed. I tightened them evenly and as good as I could get it with the tools I had that could reach in there. I noticed when taking the OEM off, the nuts on the header bolts where loose and one of the rear was discolored noticeably.

The SS head pipe is nice. It was a shame to cover it up with chrome heat shields. I can tell a difference in the heat (less) and the way it runs. It definitely picked up more of a decel note and got louder on acceleration. Very thumpy with Pro Touring slip-ons, but nice at cruise. The discoloration of the OEM head pipe in the cat area of the pipe was crazy. The chrome had turned black between the heat shield and pipe!
Enjoy your setup and thank you for the great feedback and support.

I'm about to put the Fuel Moto 2-1-2 head pipe on my 2011 Street Glide.

Should I put the stock heat shields on the head pipe before or after bolting it to the bike?

Thanks

Heat shields are always installed last.
The whole purpose is to check for leakage, and tightness after the new exhaust/mufflers installation, then you can install the heat shields any time after that.

Crossover gasket?

I bought the SS head pipe, and the slash up mufflers. I used the oem crossover pipe. I used everything FM sent me and I didn't see any gasket(s) when I took the crossover off the oem pipes.

There's no need to change the crossover gasket unless you maul the thing taking the stock headpipe off. It's a small steel wool-looking thing that fills the gap between the headpipe and the crossover.

Unless, some one has taken it out; it has to be there. Without the crossover gasket, you will have a loss of power due to LEAKAGE!
Look again.

I checked the head pipe, it isn't there. I did a cold start and can't feel any leakage at either end of the crossover pipe. It must be there. Is there one at each end of the crossover pipe?

There is only one gasket to connect the left side to the right side of the cross-over, and it's cheap!
You also should use Permatex Copper RTV to seal the muffler's connections (no where else). Also, the two head pipe gaskets are also cheap (inexpensive), so it is necessary, replace them. Of course, you don't have to, if there is no leak.
I, personally, would change all the gaskets every time I disassemble, and reassemble the exhaust system.
If you encounter any power loss during acceleration, then this is very much the case: leakage.

Use this stuff to seal your mufflers to your pipe. Works well and comes back apart easily.

Need someones opinion on this when I got My new Limited I got fuelmotos headpipe. I let the dealer install it because I let them put in my Cams and the stock one was off. should have just done it all myself. Anyway I'm smellin some exhaust when I accelerate or let off it, seems more prominent when its decelerating and the hotter the day the worse the decel pop also.I'm thinkin the headpipe aint seated right. Also needin to get it tuned.
