Default I'm so digusted-threads not good

It appears the transmission cover that the clutch cable screws into is made of some sort of soft french cheese. Trying to finish up installing my new handlebars and the only thing holding it up is the damn threads in the cover the clutch cable threads into aren't as sharp as they should be.

The threads don't appear to be in the best shape, not sure if they happened when installed at factory of if somehow some gremlin put the pox hex on them.

Any ideas? I hate the thought of having to buy a new cover.

I often run a tap through the clutch hole just because those threads are a bugger to get the cable started in. You'll have to check but I think it's 1/4" - 20.

Thanks Sniper. A 1/4 was too small, it went in without threads. So I think I maybe used a 5/16-18, which unfortunately I don't think was the right thing to do.

So there you have it. So if anyone can think of any possible actions please let me know.

Regards,

'ppreciate it Dawg and I'm looking that and any more I find over but my worries with a used one is maybe it has the same problems mine has. I was hoping maybe there was some way that I can make mine work.

Now, I'm just war-gaming here, but say if I weld a nut to the inside or the outside (inside might hide it better) and screw the cable threads into that?

I don't know, I'm just trying to come up with something that might work.

JB Weld is out of the question though.

Honestly, I would trust it. I'd replace it. You can generally find good used ones as people black out their bikes and whatnot.

A new one isn't that expensive, I think they run about $50 from Custom Chrome of Drag Specialties.

Now there is an 'easy pull' type device that uses a nut on the outside of the cover but it includes a small tab for the end of the cable to reach the cam lever.

Good luck, sorry about your woes.
