depends on the dealer. But you better off money wise buying the tools some where else.

Google "Harley specialty tools" or something like that. You can find anything you need at reasonable prices in the aftermarket. Screw the dealerships!!

I have several of Georges tools, including the bearing puller, and they all seem to be very good quality. The best part is the "Made in the USA" stick on the box.

Parts Guy (PG): Oh it's a Harley tool I can't sell that to you.
Me: What?
PG: Harley tool I can't sell it to you, only to the service department.
ME: That doesn't make any sense I got the number out of the service manual where it said to use this part to remove bearing.
PG: That's because usually only the Service Departments buy the manual.
PG: Let's see if the SE catalog has one I can sell you.
PG: Here's one it's $290.00.
Me: That's ok there are hydraulaic presses at my work, thanks anyway.

Has anybody else hear of this? Whats the use of getting a shop manual if they won't sell you the tools to do the job? I'm not really happy about this right now.

Being in GM Parts for years -
We don't order GM Spec Tools for customers.
Never have.
It has to be done by the Service Dept.
We'll give out the ph #'s for Kent Moore or Snap on,
but in the parts dept - we have no access to tool
ordering.

It's not new or unique. I bought a '68 Porsche 911 for $3200 back in '75 ( Retail back in '68 was about $7,000.) It had a 2nd gear synchro going. I figured that I'd just fix it myself.

Wrong.

Special tools available only to Porsche Dealers were needed, so I paid the $820 for a local Dealer to fix it. ( $800 was a lot of money back in '75!)

might be a good time to let the dealer know that their kind of attitude is EXACTLY why they dont get to do your service work.
