this is exactly why I do as little business with Harley Davidsons has I have too
This following dialog still does not make any sense to me, if this is HD wide I'm a very happy camper.
Me (talking to the parts guy I've dealt with for three years): I need a price on this: Show him my piece of paper with "HD-44060A" written on it (Wheel bearing Removal/Install Tool).
Parts Guy (PG): Oh it's a Harley tool I can't sell that to you.
Me: What?
PG: Harley tool I can't sell it to you, only to the service department.
ME: That doesn't make any sense I got the number out of the service manual where it said to use this part to remove bearing.
PG: That's because usually only the Service Departments buy the manual.
PG: Let's see if the SE catalog has one I can sell you.
PG: Here's one it's $290.00.
Me: That's ok there are hydraulaic presses at my work, thanks anyway.
Has anybody else hear of this? Whats the use of getting a shop manual if they won't sell you the tools to do the job? I'm not really happy about this right now.

It's not new or unique. I bought a '68 Porsche 911 for $3200 back in '75 ( Retail back in '68 was about $7,000.) It had a 2nd gear synchro going. I figured that I'd just fix it myself.
Wrong.
Special tools available only to Porsche Dealers were needed, so I paid the $820 for a local Dealer to fix it. ( $800 was a lot of money back in '75!)
