After reading other posts on this site, I decided to get the BAL-1 last weekend. Easy install and the thing is very bright. On the high setting I am concerned I may temporarily blind the driver behind me. They will see me that is for sure.

I have been concerned about adding leds with all the reports of causing problems with the electronics. I have most all electronic options on my bike, 2009 RK, and everything works perfectly with the new light installed.

This is a great addition.

The BAL-3 is the easiest thing to install and looks great. I have no regrets about my purchase.

Are you guys using the 4led or 12led model? That twelve light one is a lot of $$$$$$$$.

47Norton,
I'm running the BAL1 which is the 4 LED light. That puppy is plenty bright and leaves spots in your eyes. You'd probably go blind with the 12 LED version.

The 12 led model is recommended for Law Enforcement bikes. The 4 led is all you need. The designations for the 4 led models such as bal-1, bal-2, etc. refer to with or without license plate light, smoked, laydown, etc.

i really like the increased visibility of my bal 1 without the licence plate window for the streetglide. i rode a friends harley for a few miles at night so i could see what the bal looks like in real life. yeow corndoggies, that sucker is bright. i leave it on the brightest tail light and the brightest flashing brake light. it's an attention getter and hopefully it'll keep someone who's texting rather than driving from running into me. at first i thought, humm, a bit pricey, but it was money well spent.

I dont like people following me too close so I did a lot of reading about the BAL-1 and found nothing but good stuff. Went to my local Harley place and they don't carry them in fact the guy behind the counter told me they were trouble, would short out my bike and the lights would burn out real quick. I read and research a lot and never found one complaint of shorts or early bulb burnout. Walked right out of the Harley shop, and ordered one on line. The installation was a breeze, and it looks great. Took the scoot out for a ride at dusk, boy howdy them cagers were keeping their distance. Ive got the two strobe blink and then the stop light and one guy pulled up next to me and told me my lights were flickering but that it was bright as hell. I told him thanks but was meant to do that, he said it was pretty cool. Great mod for the bike and fully recommend to all.

They advertise the 12 LED unit as being for "Public Safety Applicatons".

It has more LEDs in it, and double the cost. I looked at it, and it's operation and light output did not (to me) seem to be worth it. The four LED model is VERY Bright.

In "Running mode" I have mine set at medium. It is still brighter than a stock tail-light.....my concern was that if I have it as bright as it will go as a running light, that people will mistake it for a brake light that is stuck in the "on" position.

i think it's the best improvement from a safety standpoint. on my streetglide i'm using the one without the licence plate illumination window and the taillight looks completely stock, that is until i turn on the ignition and then really a big difference when i apply the brakes. i keep mine on the highest intensity setting for the taillight and the brightest flashing brake light also. at first i thought what kind of fool would spend two hundred bucks for a taillight. the answer is, "me". it rocks.
