Harley showing the feel of the economy
I just got a letter from H-D whereas they informed me that as a quilified buyer,I could get a 2010 model touring bike at 1% intrest. Also.....was at my local dealer a few days back and he really seened to be foaming at the mouth to get my RG on a trade in. I don't really get it,but I do know the 2011 are just around the corner. That's how I got the deal on my RG to start with. I bought it 4 days before the 2009's debuted. I think I will wait to see what the 2011's look like. I am still waiting on the water cooled FLRTU. I know it is coming, sooner or later it will have to thanks to the EPA.
What do you guys think about the 1% intrest deals?

I still love my '09 Street Glide. And although it's not that big of a deal, I ordered it through the Military Overseas Sales program when I was stationed in Greece so it's a bit more special to me. It's pretty much custom ordered and here's why: H-D only releases so many bikes to the military overseas program. Once they have their allotment of bikes, that's it. No substitutions, no nothing. Well, the only FLHX they had in the inventory at the time I was ordering was a CA model, pewter pearl, with laced rims, no abs and no cruise. They changed it to redhot sunglo, aluminum wheels, abs, cruise, and 49 state emissions. The girl at the Swiss office (headquarters for European ops) said H-D was NOTORIOUSLY difficult to work with on substitutions and rarely, if ever, would grant them. Something about how that once H-D had the bikes on the punch tickets and they were all in the queue ready to be built on the assembly line, they wouldn't change it. She forwarded me a copy of the email response from the factory rep in York, PA, after she had requested all my changes, agreeing to build my bike as ordered. I think it's pretty cool ,that my scoot began life as a CA model bike with exactly the opposite of everything I would have wanted. Because of that, she's a keeper for me...

FWIW, The local H-D dealer in Temple, Tx is giving "clean book price", whatever that is, for clean, used Harleys. It just seems kinda odd to me that they are actively seeking good used bikes, in a down (?) market. I guess the market is not too far down around here maybe so.

The 1% offer was only on sportster and vrods, the rest of the lineup is excluded from that, you may want to re read your offer.
As far as the clean book for trade offer, do not be mislead by that tactic. When a trade is involved, the ONLY thing that matters is the difference left between the trade and the new bike. Over allowing on a trade simply means that they wont discount the new bike from MSRP. They are not really giving you more money for the trade, they just will not discount the new bike from sticker as much.
They are not looking for used bikes in this economy as much as they need to move the 10 models. The floorplan on those bikes is costing them alot of money and they need to turn them before the 11 models come out.
The rule of thumb is you can deal wholesale for wholesale or retail for retail. If you expect to get retail for your trade, you are going to pay retail for the new bike. If you want a big discount on the new bike (invoice) you are going to get wholesale or auction value for the trade in.
