I was wondering, they rate the 103 at 54 MPG. I have a totally stock with about 6600 miles on it. I started off at about 38 and am up to 43.5 now. I have recorded every tank in Excel and run a trendline for it. I am tracking 0.115 per tank-full improvement. That would put me at 54 at about 133 fill-ups or about 21,000 miles. The fact I ride 1 up or 2 up, long distance or short, 50 or 70 MPH does not appear to have much of an affect. How does this compare with everyone else?
I just don't see how they are getting those numbers. I have a RK with the 96 and the dealer said the same rating for this one but the highest i have ever gotten was 47mpg and I have about 13K and the mileage has leveled off. I now average 42mpg with the stage one and SEST.
You are never going to get beyond where you are now. 42-43 is about where most are. Some less, but few get better. The trend line assumes that things will continue to break in and that there will be some advantage, good luck with that.
I was getting the same mileage with my RK, but the engine was running really hot. Had the dealer put it on a dyno and a new map set-up, the bike runs cooler and is much more enjoyable to me. I now get around 43 mpg, which I would gladly take over the 54 mpg and burnt legs.
2WheelGlider, you are right on my trendline. I would like to hear from someone with more miles than me, with a strickly stock bike. From what I have been reading, when people add or motify the original, the mileage goes down, maybe for a tradeoff in another area. Does anyone have 10,000 or more miles on their's and can test my theory? My mileage is still climbing at a fairly constant rate. I don't think I have hit it's peak yet.
Going cross country I averaged 46.4 mpg with my set-up. Total trip length 6,800 miles. The guy with me on a 2008 with the 96 was consistently getting about 3 or 4 mpg less.
I just completed a 2,800 mile ride and over the entire trip I averaged 44.7 mpg. My highest tank was 49 mpg. This is a '08 with 103" and 255 cams and 28,000 miles on the bike. Around town I get 38-40 mpg.
I have 11,000 miles on mine. 38 m.p.g. is what I get. I have Woods TW6-6 cams, Fuel-moto 2-1-2 head pipe(no cat), jackpot mufflers, high flow air filter and PC-V. (100 H.P./107TQ.) I could chirp a little more out of it if I rode nice and easy but, that's not gonna happen.
