I've never done a burnout. Previous owner was a 50's guy moving up to an Ultra. The mechanis says he sees something like this every couple of months. I guess i'm not alone. On the other hand, I may have a lot more HP/TQ than I planned.

That, plain sucks. I hope this hasn't become the norm and some of us just don't know it yet.

Look folks, there must be a lawyer on this forum that knows something about class actions. I am a nuclear eng and know the science of motors, metal and engines is very well known. This type of engineering is so well known it is no problem to design an engine and drivetrain to last 150000 with less than 3 failures in 1 million, six sigma. The moco is knowingly building inferior stuff. Their engineers cannot be that stupid. They will continue as long as we let them. Would you expect your car crankshaft to fail at 20000, hell no. The moco should be forced to pay and have a minimum warranty of 50000 reguardless of age. Their performance is unacceptable, but they sure make a lot of money off each bike.

I have a 07 Ultra Classic. I recentley had Dyno'ed. The problem I think I'm having is that at 70 + miles per hour my 6th gear is only running around 2500 RPM's. It seem slugish. Now, the HD Shop says my bearings are bad on the 6th gear (2nd time in 3000miles). The bike has 24000 miles. Any idea what's going on?

I am living the same nightmare now with my 07 SG. It has 11,230 miles on it. Crank runout was .036".

My bike has no warranty left but I called HD customer service to see what they would do. They said to let the dealer look at it and verify the runout, then maybe if I was "good customer" they "might" buy parts if I payed the HD service labor charge to do the repair. He also said in the past they have also denied help if not considered a good customer at the dealer. I called the Dealer and they said ball park labor of $1,200.00-$1,500.00. I don't have them do any work on my bike so I'm probably a bad customer.

Give'em a call..... maybe you are a "good customer"....????

What really sucks is that any problems or vibrations or whatever you feel is not right with your bike during the warranty is considered "normal" but I bet you the day after you warranty runs out if you take it to the ****'s they will find somethin and it will cost you a few grand. I like my ride but i have been chasing a weird vibration at higher rpm's that was not there before and the dealer keeps sayin its fine, all you can do is keep track of all your complaints by collecting all invoices every time you take it and if something like this occurs turn it over to a lawyer. I am a loyal customer but lately am not pleased with the service from HD and all I want is a good product that one day i could leave to my kids.

Took the bike in to my indy mechanic for new tires and brakes and while it was there I decided to have the mechanic install the 255 cams i bought on ebay a few months ago. He pulled the covers off and did a cursory runout check on the crankshaft and it had .020" of runout. He commented that .004" was a lot and that .020" was enormous. He also miked the inside of the cam plate bushing and it was wallowed out significantly. I went by and confirmed this. Needless to say, im reeling from what I thought was $300.00 for cams install.

He says that I'll need to rebuild the crank and rods, and possibly rebore the cylinders, and replace the pistons if everything is scored. The cost would be $3000.00 - to $3900.00 if he goes with the 103 kit and new pistons etc.

I believe he's a square shooter but want to do my due diligence and get other opinions and recomendations. If I don't do the repairs, he said he could put it back together and I could run over to the dealer and trade it. I can't just do that. I'm sure the dealer would sell it as is and some poor guy would curse me forever.

I'll appreciate your comments.

Went through the same thing on my 08 with 30k on it. My run out measured .008 and the manual says in the bike the run out should be .010 but my indy had stated the same .004. Scared me too the brass bushing in the cam plate was worn on one side also. I put it back together and have put anothe 3k miles on it with the255 cams in. There is a lot of issues it seems like with the new style cranks. I won't be using a HD crank when I have to do a complete rebuild. Your .020 I don't know what I would do but from what I understand you can use the .010 as the mark defined by the Moco after many inderations of acceptance.
