Default Rear Speaker Wiring

Does my 2010 RG have wiring anywhere that would connect to rear speakers on a tour pack?

Thanks.

You would have to buy the audio overlay harness to plug into. You'd also need your radio flashed to recognize the rear speakers.

Is that a big deal or just plug and play stuff?

Not too big a deal. If you look HERE you can see the HD instruction sheet for the boom audio rear speaker kit which will show you what is required and how it goes together

The HD kit will include passenger controls. If you want a less costly alternative, and without passenger controls, Hogtunes has rear speaker kits with pods that include the necessary wiring.

Also, unless your radio has been flashed to have a fader control, you will need to have the dealer do this if you want that feature. If you scroll through the various radio controls (e.g. volume, bass, etc.) and don't see "fader" your radio hasn't been flashed.

Hogtunes Ultrasound. Everything you need.

Parts wise, a bit cheaper than HD parts, but with Hogtunes, you dont need the stereo flashed by the dealer to activate the rear speakers. Than can run upwards of $100.

Hogtunes also includes a quick disconnect, if your looking to do the detachable mount for your tourpak.

Hogtunes does not have the volume control on the rear pods, or the intercom PTT switch, if either of those are important to you. (they were not for me) He does offer a very good warranty, which the MOCO does not.

I looked at the hog tunes and it said i needed a amp also. Is that necessary?

HT uses an amp because they are taking the front l/r signal and splitting it, sending the unamplified signal to the rear speakers, and amplifying the signal to the front speakers. The radio's rear speaker outputs aren't used.

The HD rear speaker kit uses harnesses that connect to the rear speaker outputs of the radio. The outputs are "live" but the flash is necessary to turn on the "fader" function.

My dealer didn't charge me for the "fader" flash.

To answer your question whether the amp is necessary, it is unless you wire the speakers in series in order to avoid a mismatch in the radio's amplifier's impedance and speaker impedance.

In any case, if you are using the OEM speakers, your money would be better spent on better front speakers IMO.

Good luck with your research.

Carl

PS: If you don't have one already, buy the HD service manual and take a look at the wiring diagrams in the appendix--you'll better understand the wiring involved with rear speakers.
