bike cut out at 50mph - motor, electrical, everything
Cruising home last night, hit a small bump in the road and everything cut out...the engine sputtered, no throttle response, and all my gauges kind of flashed.
As quickly as it happened, it all came back, the stereo reset itself, and I had response in the throttle.
Did I read about a similar problem on here a while back? Any thoughts?

Mine did the same thing and when the dealer came and got it the electrical connection that goes on top of the battery was loose. I guess when they removed the battery to replace it when I bought it, been sitting in the warehouse for 3 months. Someone didn't click it all the way together, so the vibration worked it apart. Same thing happened to a buddy's bike years before that.

Yeah, I'm hopin' its something that simple. It's acting like it is. Like I said, I haven't got a chance to check. Damn work anyhow. It happened at 11pm last night, had to be at work at 6am (left the house at 5:30).
I posted this anyway, just in case it's not something simple and/or it has something to do with these new bikes or whatever, you never know. Thanks for the responses.

So, as soon as I got home from work Thursday night I tore into the bike and YEP, sure enough, the neutral post on the battery was lose. I got lucky.
However, this pisses me off. It didn't just come lose, it wasn't tightened down. The bike has 1000 miles on it. I've had nothing but problems with this dealership - Henderson Harley-Davidson. NOTHING but problems. And those of us that live here in the valley are screwed because the only other dealership in town is worse!
Yes, I know this is basic maintenance issue. However I didn't think I'd NEED to check after the bike had been assembled out of the crate brand new and AFTER the 1000 mile service.
I do the majority of work myself, on all the bikes I've owned, but one shouldn't have to check the shop's work AFTER you get it home, that's what we're paying them for. Unfortunately these days you do have to double check everything.

this must be a common occurence. Exactly the same thing happened to my new 09 Ultra. Glad I didn't get killed when it suddenly completely died.
Mine was the battery ground wire at the frame. thank goodness for Bob the master mechanic at Zanotti HD. Took him 30 seconds to diagnose the problem.
