Default HD Oil Cooler

Can anyone let me know what kind of drop in oil temp I can get from a HD premium oil cooler?
I want to cool my oil when I'm on the road riding but would like to know if the drop in temp is worth the price?

Hey cav, can you let me know how much the temp dropped after you installed the oil cooler?

The HD premium cooler will lower the oil temp roughly 20-25 degrees, reducing the operating temp by roughly 10%. I have one on my 2009 SG and I can definitely tell the difference in the lower heat.

Is it worth the costs? I say yes for $270 for the cooler. You will need to decide for yourself.

my local dealer told me yesterday unless oil temp is around 300 you don't need one, he also stated 240-260 is about the normal range on todays engines.

I had a HD cooler installed during 1000 mile service. During stop and go in town riding it runs about 230, on the road 180-210. My cooler was $320 w/tax, dealer chg to install $158 ( 2hr labor ). Lots of $ to install an item Harley should include as stock.
On the plus side it is a little more comfortable to ride and I have a little peace of mind that the engine may last a little longer.
Had a oil temp gauge installed at the same time. I have paid my Harley tax for a while.

I would imagine that it couldn't be a "Bad" thing to have one. Might be a project for me over the winter.

Has anyone used one of those fancy hand held digital thermometers on the input hose and the output hose of the Oil Cooler?

Thumbs up

I installed the HD cooler and HD temp gauge. On an 80 degree day the oil temp runs 180 to 200 degrees.Stop and go traffic it will get up to 220-230.
