A couple of tips on fitting the bike to you. You might want to look into a Tallboy seat that pushes you back a bit. Then floorboard extensions is a great idea, a couple of sponsors on this site sell them. I also swear by the EZ Brake and EZ Shift levers, they give my size 14 boots much more room.
After that, you may need to change the bars, but get everything else set up first, then do the bars and the windshield if necessary.
Good luck, and ride safe.

If you're serious about purchasing, your local dealer will set you up with some test rides.
Like stated above, keep your options open, and think about what you'll use it for, touring, short rides, city riding????
One thing for sure - you'll love any touring Harley! I wish I would have done it earlier.
I also have the same background, and still do ride dirt bikes. The weight becomes a non issue fast. Just a matter of getting used to it.
The way I look at cruisers vs crotchy's/dirt bikes, it's nice actually riding a bike rather then racing it! Especially as your age creeps up...

dezldk,
I'm 6'4"/230 also coming from sportbikes. I got a Road King cuz that's what I wanted. You can make them all "fit". For me 16" apes were the ticket. Added some highway pegs and it's all day long comfort. I think you'll be just fine on an EGC with a few add ons.
But hold on to your crotchrocket and/or dirt bike! They've still got fun in them!

I'm Bias, but hit a dealer and rent them each. I have a local one that rents during the week days for 89.00 a day. Yeah its not super cheap but it will let you know EXACTLY what you want. I like the Road Glides but couldn't get the hang of going a different way than your bike is pointing LOL. Just pokin fun
