Default Screw Extracor Broke Off in Shifter Arm!!!

So I have the worst luck today lol I bought 2 new shifter pegs for my baby. Grabbed the first peg with some vice grips & gave it a little tap with a mallet nice & slow & soft until it loosened. Then unscrewed it just fine. Took the same approach for the second peg but the damn bolt snapped off since it was held on with red loctite for some reason. So I drilled a hole in the broken bolt caught in the threads of the shifter arm then tapped a screw extractor in there. gripped the extractor & slowly turned, thought i was making progress & it snapped.
So I went & got a different set of extractors since the bolts holding on my shifter arms were stripped. drilled & tapped ...wouldn't you know it the extractor(hardened steel) snapped again! (yes i'm turning it the right way b/c i got the first shifter arm off just fine lol) so i googled & asked around hardware stores being told cobalt drill bits well lubricated with a lot of force might slowly eat through the extractor...not true with a standard power drill. Spent 20+ mins slowly drilling with no progress at all.
Which brings me here, any suggestions of how the hell to gets these two busted extractors out? I can't ride with just my rear shifter arm & peg....hoping I won't have to take it to the shop & pay big bucks for something so stupid & minor. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated but I can't really think of much else I could do.

that red locktite is a *****. Try some wd40 or other penetrate and let it work its way into the seams (hopefully) overnite.

thanks for the replay. I have it soaked in wd40 as we speak hoping that will help but the cobalt drill bit barely even left a mark. I honestly don't even know how the shop would get it out but I'll try again tomorrow then take it to the shop if all else fails.

thanks again.

You need a carbide burr (rotary file) on a high rpm cut off tool or Dremel to get the hardened steel extractor out. A carbide drill may get it out but that will be expensive and it will probably break before you get all the way thru.

You could just replace the shift arm too.

lol well there is one broken extractor in the peg hole & one in the shifter arm mounting bolt so not so easy. i'll have to look up that burr see if i can find one around town or something. Thank both of you guys for the responses!

My first thought since it would probably be cheaper than the indy fixing you up!

And if you ain't got nothing to lose put the arm in a vice and smack it with on the back side of the bolt with an old punch or small drift pin to see if you can fracture the bond that loctite has on it, then see if you can get a grip on what you can to see if you can wrench them out.
Heat could help but don't know how the finish would hold up to however much you needed.

If you have a vice then I don't think an indy can do anything you can't do so get jiggy with it!

Good luck!

well i found the carbide burr online at a local store a town away but not sure what i should get, the cone shape almost like a drill bit to go down into the screw? I'm hoping they're open tomorrow & i can go pick one up or ask what would be best for my situation.

Thanks a lot for the info, hopefully this will work & I can get my hands on one.

If you can get to the back side of the busted bolt. You could drill until you hit the extractor then punch the extractor out from the back. Go low rpm with the drill and lots of pressure dead center and the broken bolt may screw out on the end of the drill bit. I have done this more than once.

If you have a dremel tool, you could try a small cutting wheel to cut the shift arm off.
