Default 2006 headsets

Hi,I recently have bought a 2006 Ultra Classic and it came with a 5 pin HD headset which doesn't seem to work on the bike. Now my question is: is the 5 pin headset the right one for my bike or should I be using the 7 pin one? What is the difference between the two? Thanks a lot

Five pin headsets are for the 97 & below Ultras, it should work for listening to the radio but the mic will not work. They changed the type of mic used in 98. I use a 7 pin adapter and a computer style headset which is very comfortable and provides great comm and CB use.

Sorry, dtgiese, but my wife's 2007 Ultra came with a seven pin connector and the microphone works fine. I don't know what year H-D switched from five to seven pins, but it wasn't 2007.

Do yourself a favor and order a set of J&M Headsets, far superior to OEM 7 pin.
They have 2 quality levels. I have the Performance 159HO, works great.

Get yourself one (or 2) of these and you can use HDForms as the coupon code for $10 off.

I have used both the J&M Elite (top-of-the-line) headset and the standard H-D headset. IMO the H-D headset sounds better.

I said "1997 and below" not "2007 and below", hers indeed is a 7 pin plug. If you try to use a 5 pin headset with a 1998 and above Ultra the mic will not work.
