Eitms kicks in at what oil temp???
#21
The heat reduction strategies change greatly by year, model and even calibration level. There are various stages base on cyl head temp and other parameters (such as if the bike is moving or not) where the ECM starts adjusting igntion timing, richening the mixture, and lowering the idle. Generally speaking in most calibrations when cyl head temp rises above 287 degrees if EITMS is enabled it will drop the rear cylinder or skip fire both cylinders sequentially. Again, these strategies can change greatly by year and model.

I have been looking at a 2010 Streetglide. My question is does it help the engine run cool in traffic if you turn on the eitms? This is the first time hearing about the options. I hate to spend 20.000 and have to install new pipes, air filter and dyno time. I want a quite bike. I have a Fatboy with the stage 1 installed and it did help lower the temp.

It does help. Its gets pretty hot here in the Dallas area and it will kick in from time to time in city traffic even with stage 1 when its 95 or so outside. On mine I have an HD Ventilator AC, SE touring pipes and a PCV and map from Fuelmoto. The bike runs great, gets 43mpg on avg, runs cooler and is not loud at all (I hear the radio just fine at 4 bars or more) but has a nice bark to it when I get on the throttle.

I test road a 2010 streetglide today and asked the dealer to show me how to activate the eitms. He rolled the throttle forward and the cruise light came on. I could tell the engine was running a little rough but not much. The dealer said it will help a little with heat but the best thing to do was install a set of pipes and air cleaner. If they do that they will remove the eitms or disable it. I road it for about 30 mins and the rear cylinder was cooking my legs. Even my wife on the back noticed the heat. Love the look and the ride I guess I will need to plan on installing pipes.
