"U" Spring Nuts -

or

They're a fairly common hardware item that should be available at any well stocked store like a True Value Hardware or Fastenal. You'll find them commonly used in automotive applications. The actual name was eluding me so I went to the Fastenal site and found them. They are "U" spring nuts. I used the ones that take a sheet metal screw but they also make them for machine screws/bolts.

As I recall they were not very deep as the set back on the holes in the speaker surround are fairly close to the edge. I did have to spread them a little because the plastic is fairly thick. It wasn't hard and probably took a total of 10 minutes to redo both speakers.

UPDATE TO ORIGINAL POST...................

I found these on E-bay. They are almost identical to the original wellnuts in the speaker pods. They are a little longer overall, the barrel is thicker than the original, the head end is about twice as thick. I inserted them from the inside of the pod instead of from the outside in, like the original. I used a lock washer on the wellnut when inserting. Since they were longer, they allowed for the washer as back up. Since the barrel is thicker they were not easy to insert. I found by placing the wellnut in position and then threaded the screw into the nut a few turns and used the screw to pull the nuts into place. I also found getting the screws started when installing speakers and grills was much easier. When tightening the screws I could bear down on the screw to get it very tight and knew I wasn't pulling the wellnut out. They tightened up like any other screw and you could feel they were tight. I have been running them for nearly 2 weeks and so far so good. $6.00 for 12 wellnuts, had enough for both speakers and a few spares. I know others have had luck with other types of fasteners, c-clips etc, this is what I came up with and I think the problem is solved.

Out of curiosity, are the HOGTUNES pods the only ones doing this? Are HD's pods doing the same thing? I ask because they're on my "IMA GONNA" list.

Thanks

In my case it wasn't Hog Tune rear pods. I had HD pods with Hog Tune speakers in them. I'm not positive, but I think that was the case with most if not all of the posters in this thread. Again I can't be sure but, I beleive it was the added weight of the Hog Tunes speakers that may have been the reason this is happening. If you read the other posters input, Hog Tune speakers were not the only type with this problem, but all were speaker upgrades and all have the larger magnets and added weight. That was my observation in any case. There were a few remedies for this problem, I only posted back with what I came up with.
