Out of Warranty, probably out of luck. Just had 30,000 m. service on my '06 Deuce, (extended service warranty 'til Apr. 2011). Service manager said the Mo. Co. suggests checking them at 20,000 m., 30,000 m., and every 10,000 m. after that. Mine were "good", (very little wear, so far). If your dealer checked them at 20 k., and passed them, you might get some relief on the cost of tensioners. Sorry about your trouble, talk nice and keep at them for a break on costs. Good luck

The chain tensioner problem is well known for the spring type tensioner. The 07s have the better hydraulic set up so this failure is kinda puzzling UNLESS your hard on the bike ( lug or over rev motor) or maybe something else caused the failure. Anyway, here is a very good article about the problem.

The Hydraulic Tensioner was supposed to fix the problem of the failing Spring Tensioner, however this seem to not be working. There was an article recently in one of my magazine subscriptions that showed a failure of the Hydraulic Tensioner. Harley need to revist their ideas on this ongoing tensioner problem. To me this just should not have to be an item that needs to be checked every 10,000 miles. There are lots of people that put more than that on their bikles every year. Having to undo the exhaust every year to check this is just a huge pain in the ***. Come on Harley....pull your heads out of your's and fix this once and for all.

Interesting, I just put the SE Cam plate & oil pump in over the winter. I didn't know these were "blowing".

I doubt very much that the tensioner caused the failure of your motor.
You need to ask whoever is pulling it apart to show you the parts.
Now the crank scissoring would take out the oil pump and that would spray metal all over the motor but not a little tensioner.

I had my cam cover off at 18000 miles and the tensioner pads looked almost new. Seems to be the most common result as reported here. Losing one (especially at 27000 miles) is a new one to me.
