Default Older tour pac, on newer bike?

I would like to know if 1989 Electra Glide tour pac would work on a 2009 Road Glide, if I use the correct mounting hardware for the 2009? Also did the shape of the tour pac change from then til now?

You could put the older tour pak on an 09, but you would have to drill new holes in the bottom as the mounting holes on the 09 would be different.

Tour paks since at least '06 have an essentially flat bottom with recesses molded in for the nuts that secure the flat metal plate inside the tour pak, and to accommodate the mounting hardware. Older (not sure how far back) have molded, non-flat bottoms (for lack of a better phrase). The '09 detachable rack is flat, so an '89 tour pak will not appear to sit flat; you'll see the molded ribs and nuts, which may or may not be important to you.

I put a 97 on my 09 street glide. Bought the quick release mount but it did not fit the tour pak right so I just made my own & it works great. You can make the mount work with a little work.

Default It will fit

I used 1/2" nuts as spacers between the bottom of the tour pack and the mounting plate as a quick fix. Worked fine. I plan on replacing those with some 1/2 " square tubing when I get around to it.......

PS it will seem like you need several hands to get the nuts between there but I was able to get it done myself with a little time.

Did you ever install the Tour Pak? I installed a Tour Pak from my '89 I had in the garage on my '09.
